Magic Bands 101

Hi!

Sorry this is a little weird/complicated. We are staying at POP for the first two nights of vacation for Disney Princess Weekend 2015 (YAY!)

After the two nights, we move to a timeshare. Can we continue to use our MB for park stuff after we leave the Disney resort? Obviously, we can't link rooms to it, but can we use it for FastPass+ etc? We will be buying a one or two day park ticket to MK WITH the hotel purchase, but will not go to the parks until the following week (once we've moved to timeshare resort)

Thanks!!!
(let me know if this is unclear! :) ) :crazy2:

Yes!:) Your MBs can be used for park entrance and FPs.

I am looking at purchasing a magic band off ebay. It says it is new in the box and has been deactivated. I'm going in December. If I buy this can I activate it?

No, you cannot. MBs are tied directly to a user profile. That user can deactivated the band, but it cannot ever be attached to someone else's profile. Many people sell their extra bands because you can use MBs to unlock a part of the Disney Infinity video game with them...and I am sure there are some that sell them to scam others.

You can get your own band free with a WDW resort stay, or you can buy a band in the shops at WDW and have it linked to your MDEx profile.

Thanks!
I wanted to buy the LE Olaf which I understand will not be available after September. If it is new in the box, it still can't be activated; if you buy a Frozen one at the parks? They are for show and bragging rights only then?

When you purchase the band they have to link it to your account, so whomever bought the ones on eBay had the bands linked to their account. Like a PP mentioned, they then deactivate them and sell them but you cannot link them to a different account (ie, yours.)

This conversation might warrant being added to the post on page 1. I can see lots of folks asking this question in the future.

Can I reuse it? I plan on buying an Olaf my first day. To make sure I understand this. I buy the new band, everything on my current band goes to my new, in this case Olaf band, correct?

You can def reuse it.

Hi, we are going mid August, staying off site, but agreed to do the Magic Band thing (for memories). Problem is our two youngest know about and want the Olaf ones....

We have a quiet non park day planned for day one. Does this mean I have to go (at least one of us) and buy an extra day of park admission to get the special bands at Hollywood Studios? We had all planned on going there on day 4...maybe we just wait? Wish they had them at downtown Disney...

You should wait. At $30 per Olaf MB, that is a huge expense to add on a park ticket.

Im going next yr with a large group and cant wait to see what comes out next yr. plus not having to worry about losing tickets - whew!

Question - can you link gift cards to them or just credit cards?

Credit cards can be linked to your MDE account; gift cards cannot be linked. You can have your gift cards applied to your account at the front desk of your resort after you have a balance payable on your resort account.

Yes, sort of. After you buy the Olaf band and they activate it in your account BOTH the Olaf band and your original band will be active. You can use them interchangeably and both will link to your room charge, tickets, etc... If you don't want it to be that way, sign in to MDX and go to Magic Bands and deactivate the one you don't want to be able to use :)

You can definitely reuse it, but you don't quite have the particulars correct. Nothing at all is on any of your band. Nothing. They simply have a unique identifier that allows the band to read any information linked to your online profile. Therefore, any bands that you have will work to access that information. You can have multiple bands active at one time and all will work to access you linked info.

Any bands you get can be reused on future trips, including the bands you purchase. They will simply read whatever info is linked to your profile at that time.

You don't have to have the Olaf bands the first day. Just explain to your children that you will get them when you get to the Studios.

For a mid-October trip I have Dolphin reservations that include a Will Call voucher for Park Hopper tickets. (bought through Costco Travel- great deal!).

I have been able to create MDE for all of us and link the tickets. Fastpass plus reservations are in place!

Here's the (very small) problem.

We arrive late (midnight) on a Thursday. Friday (our first day in the parks) we want to go to MK. I want to take the Disney bus from the Dolphin to MK. But my "Will call" ticket voucher says I have to go to the Transportation/Ticket Center to get the actual tickets. So we would have to then ride the ferry or monorail from the MK gates back to the TTC, and then ride again back to enter the MK.

If I've already linked the tickets in MDE, could I buy magic bands at the front gates of the MK and have them linked to MDE right there? Would that prevent me from having to go to TTC?

Or can the Dolphin gift shop sell me magic bands and link them?

Thanks for any help you can offer!

P. S. I've thought of starting the day by going to International Gateway at Epcot (another place where the Will Call voucher can be exchanged), then walking through Epcot to the monorail and taking that to MK. But seems like a lot of walking to start our day.

I apologize if this has been answered before. I have multiple magic bands. How am I personally connected to the bands? If one was taken from our hotel room, could it be used by a thief to enter the park or re-enter our hotel room or any other function that doesn't require a pin? Couldn't anyone in possession of the band do the Mickey to Mickey contact on the readers?

First, welcome!! :)

I believe the short answer is yes. Last I checked you could make any band "inactive" and then re-activate later if you're worried about this. If lost a band can also be effectively cancelled altogether right on MDE -- kind of like reporting a credit card lost or stolen. My sister lost her band last trip and we did this ourselves without a problem. Now that was in Feb... Things change so quickly at WDW these days... Maybe others can give more detailed or recent info.
