Magic Bands 101

I can't get "search" to work from my phone today. :(

Are the Frozen MBs still going to be for sale after the summer events end? Would seem odd for Disney to refuse to make the ton of cash that they can with this, but just wanted to check. :)

May be a really stupid question but if we are staying offsite but purchase gift cards to use for dining and souvenirs, could we put that on the band?

ETA: I also noticed this thread started almost a year ago. Do they now have the ability to add MVMCP tickets?

TIA!!!!

I hate to keep beating a dead horse, but there is absolutely nothing on the bands. They simply have a unique identifier that is tied to the user. The bands then read anything linked to the user's My Disney Experience profile.

You cannot link gift cards to a MDEx profile. The issue with party tickets is that some guests who entered the park before official party time were reporting that a day was deducted from their regular pass. In other words, the turnstiles took a day from their regular park pass instead of reading the party ticket. I am not sure if this problem has been corrected.

Is it just me, or is it odd that you can't order the special themed magic bands before arriving at Disney. Like the Frozen ones... Disney could avoid the cost of shipping the plain, colored bands and they could get you to pay for the special ones.

Sorry if this questioned has already been asked. We have an upcoming trip in October and this will be our first experience with MB. I'm curious if they fall off often? They remind me of FitBit band which tend to fall off if bumped, etc... I would hate to have to worry about replacing and I have seen things that will secure a FitBit and thought about purchasing them for our trip? Anyone think it's necessary? Thanks!

Mine fell off a couple of times.

Over our 10-day trip, no one in our group had a MB fall off. My DH's got caught on his backpack as he was putting it on and did pop off, but that was the only time it was an issue.

None of ours ever fell off. In fact, the most annoying part was that my backpack strap would get caught on it every time I slid it up and down my arms when taking it on and off. Does that make sense? You know how you put a backpack on one shoulder and then you reach back with the other arm to grab the other strap? Well the strap kept getting caught on my MB every time I tried to slide my arm into It. You'd think I would've switched arms, but its an OCD thing I guess ;) I will say, though, that as many times as it got caught, it never once fell off or even came unhooked.

Do you still get a free band with an annual pass or was that just a promotion earlier this year?

You do! As well as the cute AP box and slider. I had an AP voucher so just got regular bands. We went to BLT 2 weeks ago and when I activated my AP he said the AP band and slider would be mailed to me. After returning home 9 days later I wasn't sure why it hadn't arrived yet so I logged into MDX and realized I had to pick a color, confirm my address, and click 'ok to ship' first before it would be sent. That would've been helpful to know ;)

Thanks everyone! Sounds like they're pretty sturdy and I can save that money and put it towards Mickey ice cram in the park!

I am not exactly sure how the Photopass will work. I would assume that it would be tied to anyone in your Family and Friends network but don't quote me on that.

This is how it worked for us...Memory Maker is linked to my band, but anyone in my friends & family group is able to have pics attached to the account.

So, when the kids went off on their own while we relaxed by the pool, all of their ride photos still showed up in my Memory Maker account.

I have a two year old nephew going with us on our next trip. It will not be necessary for him to have a park ticket or the DDP because of his age. Would Disney send him a magic band as well if he is on the reservation? I believe that since the other 7 of us will have one, he will feel the need to have one too.
If Disney does not send him one, if I understand correctly, I can purchase him one in the parks. I just will not link it up to anything and it will be just more of a bracelet to him instead of a functioning magic band.
Do you think I would have any problems with him at the gate if he was wearing a non-functioning magic band? Do you think they will stop him if his doesn't work and he doesn't have a ticket attached. I would think that they could tell he was under three (he's a small kid anyways) but I don't want to run into any issues. He will want to be so big since his 14DB, and 15 and 17 DCousins will be using them.
Thanks for your input.

That's good, but that poster made a good point. If the CM sees a MB on a child won't they assume they're 3 and have a ticket? Are they going to have to explain that he's 2 every single time? I feel like they should have some sort of color coded or specially marked band for the under 3 crowd so that doesn't have to keep happening. It seems like it would get old really fast having to keep explaining it...every park entrance, every ride, some meals.

My guess, and it's just that, a guess, is that the "under 3" MB would turn green and let him in automatically, since no ticket is required.

I have a odd question
I am an AP (have already done a trip this year so I have a pink band), split stay coming up and on the 2nd leg of the trip (BW CL) my daughter did a package with 1 day ticket on it. I also plan on getting Magic Memories.

So I guess my question is how is that 1 day ticket going to work? Can you have more then one active magic band at a time?

Love Disney! Judy

I currently have 6 Magic Bands that are active and use them interchangeability.
