Magic Bands 101

Please help me to understand how this will work. End of May, we arrive late in evening, staying at an onsite resort for 1 night. The next day, we move to another onsite resort for a 3 night stay. That day will also be our first park day. On our check out day, we'll spend the day in the park, and then are driving to Cape Canaveral to stay the night. The next morning, we're going on a 4 night Disney cruise. When we get off the ship, we're heading back to WDW for a 4 night stay at our last onsite resort.

I've set up my MDE account, and all 3 reservations for our resorts are in there. ( 1 night, 3 nights, and 4 nights.) I plan to purchase 8 day park hopper tkts from UT. We'll be using 4 park days before the cruise, and 4 park days after the cruise. Because of the cruise, there will be a 4 day period without any park days.

How will all this work with being able to get our FP+'s? Will we be able to set them all up at the same time? Is it going to penalize us for having our trip broke up in to 3 resorts? On the 4 park days before the cruise, we'll be going only to HS & EP, while staying 3 nites at BWV. After the cruise, we're staying at BLT, and will be doing only MK & AK. We're going to want to select our FP+'s 60 days out. Will we be able to do so?

I don't know if you've purchased your tickets yet, but if you haven't, you may be better off buying 1 two day passes for each park, without the park hopper option, since you can't get FP+ picks for more than one park per day, and you can only pick 3. :confused3

Yes, you take your printed AP ticket receipt, ID & DVC member card to any of the 4 parks to receive actual passes & passes activated @ that time.

But I don't have a printed AP receipt, I just have a confirmation number, or I think the CM called it a "Will Call" number. Can I give them the number and can they 'look it up'?
:confused3:worried:

Yes the will call is the number to your pass. I went last December to magic kingdom customer relations in the park. If you have to get pass to get in park there is a will call pick up outside on the right side of the entrance.

Ok. So One more question. Sorry. :flower3: So, do we have to go to Guest Relations before we enter the park, or not, because I'm not going to if it's just a waste of time. :hourglass

We're going to be upgrading our DL AP's to Premier passes in June for our November WDW trip. We've had issues in the past where when we get to WDW, our premier passes don't work at the turnstiles and we have to go to Guest Relations to get them activated for WDW. I really hope this won't prevent us from making FP+ reservations beforehand since we're staying on property. Anyone have experience with this, by chance? :confused3

If you need the official pass to enter the park you will have to get it outside before entering.

The last 2 years when I have had to pick up my APs I have stopped off at Guest Relations in Downtown Disney before I checked in at my resort. I've always been able to get in and out quickly.

How many days do you currently have scheduled (your on-site days)? I believe you can only schedule 7 days at a time with AP's so that may be the issue. I am an AP and I have had my FP+ booked for our trip next month since our 60 day window opened up. We are staying on-site but I only booked the room a few days ago so we had no room ressie when I made them.

I have the FP+'s for the first 6 nights onsite (7 days), plus for the second part onsite 2 nights (3 days) -- so 10 days worth altogether, but still get the "Fast Pass limits reached" on the off-site days in-between.

It's not really a biggie for us since we'll certainly be able to do the rides we like at least once (altho my grandson will miss the times when he's done Space Mountain 5 or 6 times in a day, and I guess that's one of the things this system is designed to prevent).

I'm not picky about which park I go to the first day but I must go to a park. Soooo, I need my pass too lol. This trip we will be in MK by 2:00. Flying down early AM.

I have a question about split stay. We added on a day to our current trip at a different resort than what we are staying at for the rest of our trip.

1 day added recently

Our actual trip 9days/ 8 nights follow the one day.

We are receiving 2 sets of magic bands.

Will I be able to use both sets?

will I only be able to use the magic bands from the first 1 day trip.

We prefer to use the colors of our second set.

Anyone have experience with split stays, thank you :)

Yes, you may use both sets interchangeably. The only thing you might need to do different is check out of your first resort (like, physically at the front desk) before you check-in to your second resort.

Actually, when I did a split stay in three resorts in October I never physically checked out from any of the resorts. I used all three Magic Bands interchangeably throughout my nine day stay.

I didn't have a problem either but I guess some have reported problems, especially if they tried to check in at the new resort before the computer automatically checked them out of the old one (around noon).

Ok, sort of off topic.....but.....

Does anyone watch Honey Boo Boo? I swear they were wearing Magic Bands on the episode last night! Ha! I paused it and showed my husband and he laughed and said of course the Disney freak noticed it!

I can't believe how much of a newbie I feel like lol

Last month we had no problems using any MB we chose that day, but the one day we tried to check in to a new resort before official checkout time AND without having gone to the front desk to "check out", we had problems. It was taking awhile for the CM to check us out of Pop's system, so we went to our breakfast at Kouzzina. When we got back it was after checkout time, and the CM had done what she had to do, and we were able to check in.

Does anyone know what the cost is to upgrade to the Magic bands from the Card? I tried to search this thread, but can't find the answer…so sorry if it was already answered.

Also I'm staying off the resort, and just reading through this thread, its not available to us because of that, has that changed?
