Magic Bands 101

Our group is staying on site and plan to get to park early and wanted to check in at the resort after the park since check in is at 4
We are doing split stay both at Disney Resorts
Today cm told me I have to check in first to use our Magic Bands
Is this correct as if we need to check in to both stays before using our band and FP it seems like we will be wasting time we could be doing RD at the parks

No, you don't have to go to the resort if you already have your magic bands, BUT you DO have to go to Guest Relations outside of the first park you go to, to have your bands attached. Don't ask me why. I thought the same thing you did. If you already attached your tickets and chose your fastpasses, why wouldn't you be able to walk right in?:confused3 You ALSO have to go to your front desk at your resort so you can get into your room.

I wasn't sure if this should be a new thread & don't know where it would go if it were but...my roommate & I are both passholders. I am the controller of both of our MDE accounts b/c I booked FP+s & ADRs our last trip so his MB came today in the mail w/my name on it. But I haven't gotten mine yet. I customized them both on the same day. Has this happened to everyone else or do they come in separate boxes? When we got ours for our trip & stayed at Pop, both came in the same box so I don't know if I should be worried or not? :confused3

No I wouldn't worry. I think all the AP bands are shipping separately. I know DH and mine are.

I made a reservation for May through a third party (Hotels.com). Is there any way that I can call disney and verify my reservation in order to customize our magicbands?

I know several of us were able to link hotel stays made through Expedia and Orbitz so I am sure it's possible. I would call IT.

I received all three of ours, but I "manage" them. If you have separate MDE accounts, you might get them separately. I received an email with a tracking number so I could see where mine was. My friend received hers two days before mine, even thought our customize dates were the same.

My daughter and I stayed at Pop a couple of weeks ago. We made our reservations only the day before we arrived so of course we were not able to customize our bands. Is there any way to trade in the ugly gray bands for some pretty colored bands? Do we have to wait until we make another reservation? TIA! :goodvibes

I am going to Disney with my fiance and her family in may. Future Mother in law made all the arrangements. Do we have to use her "Disney experience" and then some how connect it to mine so I can keep track of my fast passes and such or does she do all of that from hers? I'd really like to be able to control my own.

Also I saw where you can attach a credit card to your magic band and just use the band for everything in the park. Can I attach my credit card to just my band, or does one card go on the entire account?

Thanks. :) I also 'manage' both of our accounts which is why I assumed they'd arrive in the same box. The email & tracking number for mine did not appear on MDE until a couple of days after my roommate received his & then mine arrived so all is well. I'm not sure why they are shipping some separately & some together.

When they ship them, they send you an email w/the tracking # so you can track where it came from & where it currently is. I also received a message w/a link for the tracking # when I signed into MDE. If you didn't get a tracking # & it's been one week, I'd call them to see what's up: My Disney Experience, MagicBands and FastPass+ (407) 939-4357.

I do not believe you can trade them in. However, you can change any color by painting over the whole band w/nail polish & then using a couple layers of bade coat to seal it. If she has not added you to her MDE & linked your ticket to your band through her name, you should be able to set it up yourself. (You would've received an email from her about this & would've accepted the request if you already have a MDE account). You will need the reservation # from her to link the reservation to your account & then you should be able to set up your own FP+ & ADRs. If she has created your account under her name already, she will have to delete it under her MDE account & then you can create your own. As far as using the MBs to charge separately, I can tell you from experience that you are supposed to be able to. When you check in, explain that you would like to set up separate room accounts for charging privileges on the bands. They will scan you bands w/each card you choose separately. However, after our trip when I looked on my account, I realized that every single charge was added to me & nothing was charged to my roommates' account. I spoke to someone in billing who helped resolve it. So I'd advise you to sign into your account during your trip to keep an eye on it & make sure the charges are being dispersed as requested.

Mine for a Feb trip were sent UPS. According to UPS tracking the origin was Memphis, TN.

Ours were strange. I got an email saying they shipped via USPS three days ago. But the tracking showed only that USPS had received notification of a shipment.

It wasn't until today that it finally updated to show that the package was at the facility. And it still hasn't shipped after three days. It's coming out of Texas.

On your hotels.com reservation it gives you a Disney confirmation number. Link your reservation using that number to your MDE. Then you'll be able to customize. That worked for us.

No problem! Btw, I meant base coat (instead of a top coat. which has been known to crack).

Just an FYI - you can also purchase covers in different colors and designs for your bands. That and other bling as well. I'm sure they'll be in most of the gift stores.
 
Anyone know if you can use a magic band received for a resort reservation before the resort stay? We have our summer vacation planned in July for BW (YAY!), but I was a sucker and couldn't resist the new SW dining experiences so we are doing a quick (cheap as possible) trip offsite for a long weekend the last weekend in May. My husband and I already have two sets from our runDisney trip and I'm thinking our kids will be pretty jealous if we have ours and they don't yet. Our kids will only have annual pass vouchers before leaving and if I've understand correctly, we can link vouchers to magicbands but won't be eligible to order the AP magicband until they are activated. I understand that I could just buy them some but I will not be doing that since they will be eligible to get 2 sets from WDW already. Any thoughts?
