Magic Bands 101

Our trip starts February 1st at Pop Century. When should I be looking for magic band information? I watched a DIS unplugged broadcast/podcast from August 6th that was very informative. The guys mentioned your band has a four digit pin code that you enter when using it for purchases, so that if you were to lose it no one could use it to charge things to your account. Very clever!

When everything is rolled out, you should have access to the system 60 days before your check in date.

Right now, they are opening things up a month at a time. Currently, guests with December check ins are waiting for access. Some are well within their 60 day period. Once Disney opens things up for them anyone with a December check in who is not yet within their 60 day period will get access at that point.

Nobody knows when the system will be fully rolled out so there is no way to know what February will bring. Just keep checking these forums for updates.

From page 1:
"You can link your profile to someone else's and you will then be able to link to any of their friends/family as well. Once this is done you will be able to make FP+ reservations for everyone."

We are going to WDW with my brother and sister-in-law. If we link profiles, once the trip is over can the link to each other's account be removed? We are FL residents, they are not, and we go to Disney a lot - but not them. There is no reason we should stay linked. Just wondering if it can be reversed.

There really is no reason to unlink. You can make plans for any subset of the people to whom you are linked. It is not everyone or no one.

If you do want to unlink you just delete each person from your family and friends list. If you think you will ever go to WDW together again, however, it is probably best just to stay linked.

We have a party of 15...some of us on property, some who live there but have not stayed on property recently (so no magic band) and some staying with the family who lives there. It sounds like, at this point, only those of us who are staying on property will receive magic bands. Any word on when AP holders can link to a band, even if they don't have a resort reservation? Or if our offsite family can purchase a magic band? I ask because only some of us will be able to make fast pass plus selections in advance and some will have to paper fp's in the parks that day. And do I understand it correctly that if we have the bands and make the fp+ selections, we can't use the paper fp kiosks in the park right?

I just talked to IT again and was again told that I cannot link PAP's until they are activated (used at least once). I was told that if the will call confirmation # is linked to a resort reservation, then maybe that's how people are getting their AP's linked to MDE. So for those of you who linked AP's did you have your will call # linked to a reservation first?

I linked my PAP's with just the will call number. I also purchased the PAPs with the DVC discount last December. We go next week and I will find out if we get physical tickets or not. I was told we still need to go to guest services to get our tickets activated.

One other glitch. My DD is a cast member. Since they use their CM ID to get into the park they have no physical ticket, therefore, I cannot use FP+ for our trip. I have to have a ticket tied to her MB. Oh well. Maybe they'll come up with a way around that later.

How do I get the magical express info on my bands?
Received them about two weeks ago but did not know I could put the magical express on them.

Thanks in advance

As long as you have DME arranged for your reservation they will be able to see the information when they scan your MagicBand at MCO.

Thanks for the info :wave2: I called ticketing today to see if I could get a voucher in the mail and was told no then transferred to IT. IT is looking into it for me. The IT tech I talked with seemed really good so I'm hoping she can do something to fix this, but she has to call me back on Monday because ticketing closed and she needs to get some more info from them.

Thank you for this post!! I was definitely completely in the dark with magic band stuff, definitey helpful!

Tons of great info!!! Thanks everyone for your posts. We're at OKW and VGF starting on December 21st, so are patiently waiting to try to add FP+ reservations on MDE. If we can, great! If not, we'll go the old fashionned route :) Regardless, we'll be at Disney for Christmas, so will be happy either way!

Just wanted to add my voice to the MDE versus MDX debate... disney officially calls it MDX in all literature and training. :)

My opinion would be to use the term MDX. I think Disney is to trying to eliminate confusion of DME, Disney's Magical Express and DMX. Just as a CM can not use the term wristband or bracelet when speaking of a Magicband.

When you have the QS dining plan, can one person go through the line and get food for everyone, or does each person (including the kids) have to scan their Magic Band for their order?

(Are they like the tix used to be -- with all credits available to everyone in the room?)

I believe this is still possible. We never get the dining plan so I don't have first-hand experience. Hopefully someone else will come along to provide more info for you. :)

Shortly after creating this post I did go back and put MDE/MDX wherever necessary. I think it is good to have both there for right now, since so many posters are referring to it as MDE. I actually think the best way to write it is MDEx but for right now I will leave things the way they are.

How do you put someone on your Friends List but not Family List, as we don't travel together very much but I don't want to remove them. Is there a separate list or is it just the same "Friends/Family" list? :confused3

Hope that makes sense!

When you edit the individual in your 'Family & Friends' list, there is a check-box titled 'Add to Family List: This friend often travels with me.'. If checked, they are in the family section. If not checked, they are in the friends section.
