Magic Band worth it when staying offsite?

If you stayed offsite and purchased Magic Bands, was it worth it? It looks like we'll really only use them for entering parks and Fast Pass. I doubt it will be the kind of souvenir that we'll wear at home after the vacation.

No, not really, unless you have Memory Maker because you don't have to stop to tap for all your ride photos, they will be automatically captured for you. 7DMT photos are only available with a Magic Band. The little tricks where it will like have your name at the end of it's a small world is the only other benefit, and not much worth it in my opinion.

We find it much more convenient to tap our bands to enter the parks and the FP lines than to dig out our tickets and then replace them (secured so they can't fall out accidentally).

OTOH, if we didn't have MB, we'd probably put our tickets in a lanyard pouch around our necks.

DW and I tried the Magic Bands that came with our AP's and found that we didn't like them on our wrists. For the number of times we would take advantage of their capabilities it didn't seem to be worth it. And we kept forgetting to pick them up before heading out to the parks So we just use the cards that we keep in our pockets.

I"m looking forward to the new keychain as I hate things on my wrist. Lately I'm just using my AP card but I do keep one in my bag in case I hit a ride that requires it and for some reason I actually want the photo.. it can be a pain to pull out cards and hand them out but is that work $15-$40 per person so you don't need to do that is only somethign you can answer...

You can buy and link them to yourself very fast while at WDW. If your not sure if you want them, try to going to park with just your card. You'll decide fast if it's worth the price or not when your actually going around the park..

I thought it was worth it. I have kids and it made it so easy to just make sure everyone had their magicbands! We used a lot of fast passes so it made it that much quicker to get through each time. Plus my kids liked wearing them and matching up to sensors. We purchased the cheapest possible.

I forgot about the new version coming out soon. Our trip is March 23 - March 31 so maybe I can get us the the new version. Isn't part of the idea that the new ones are more economical?

The price point will be the same, but the new ones will have a removable icon that you can put into a keychain, your pocket, or other yet to be announced accessories. Helpful for those who don't like something on their wrist. I'm used to wearing a watch so the bands don't bother me. And I think it's much easier to just hold my hand up to the touch points when checking in for FP than to have to remove a ticket from a wallet, pocket, or bag. To me, it's worth the $12 (cost of a basic solid color magicband) for that convenience.

We thought the magic bands were very convenient in the parks, I would likely purchase them if we stayed off sight if it were for several days. For a couple days, I'd make due without.

If I stayed off site and had Magic Bands from a prior visit, could I use them if my tickets were linked to them?

Thanks so much.

Yes, as long as your current tickets are in the same MDE account as your magicbands and both are linked to the same person they can still be used.

I always use my MBs regardless of where I stay. I have LE bands so they do special things at the touch points plus, I love getting the pictures etc. from the rides. Disclaimer: I have an AP so they are "free".

We like them. We always do memory maker so that makes it convenient. We'll be traveling with an infant or toddler for the next few years and the Magic band is convenient when carrying a child over digging in you pocket or wallet for you ticket.

Just to be clear, tickets are not linked to MagicBands. They are linked to your MDE account. All the bands do is access the information. So if your bands are still showing as active in your MDE account (and they should be, unless you deactivated them for some reason), they will work fine to access any tickets you have linked.

They were worth it for us (but worth is soo subjective for each person/family). We had Memory Maker and are soo glad we got the videos (I watch our 7DMT video every now and then just for a smile). We also made them into an extra souvenir type thing by having the character that was on our band autograph the band for us which was kind of a fun little adventure for us to get them all. No, we don't wear them around home but we do have them in a special place. I do not regret spending the money on them.

Thanks so much all! I appreciate it!

I'm so glad.

I hardly find them worth it when I'm onsite. I like a lanyard with a nice waterproof case to carry tickets. Given that I'm still bringing id, insurance card, cc, dvc card, and some cash with me I'm still wearing a lanyard (not sure why anyone has ever had to "dig" for anything since lanyards have been widely sold for ages), so why not a card too?

There's something about might height and shoulder & wrist flexibility that makes matching band to reader very awkward. I have to take the and off entirely for the room door. I was over photo pass loooong ago.

I am not one who sees any convenience in the mb, that's for sure!

We always stay offsite and still love them. Much easier than digging the cards out for fast passes and the photos are much easier as well. I think it depends on the person, seems like people either love them or hate them.
