Can you transfer an extra magic band to someone else? We are staying at the Swan this trip & I am trying to give an extra unused magic band to a member of my party.

Is this still accurate? Can a magic band link on MDE be unlinked and attached to someone else?

Doubt it would ever happen. In the end while its not the perfect answer they made it so you can switch the band with someone as you can take out the mickey puck in the middle now. Although they need to start offering stand alone pucks instead of the ones that come in the key-chain thing.

According to the WDW FAQ:
Once a MagicBand or card is linked to your Disney account, it cannot be transferred to another person.

Except that puck will still be linked to the OP’s MDE account. It won’t be linked to the new person’s tickets or fatspasses.

I wish they’d sell bands without the pucks. When they announced the removable pucks, I thought they’d offer the pieces together and separate so you could truly mix and match or just get a new band at a cheaper price to go with the puck you already have.

You buy your own puck. They sell cheaper puck key chains that I belive can be moved in to bands.

My point also was if you have a fancy band someone else could in theory use it if they wanted for the design on it.

Ok, I misunderstood what you were saying. What you said is true. But I didn’t think that was what was being asked. It sounded to me like the OP just wanted to give a band they weren’t using to someone without one. Not just let them use a fancy band. In order for your suggestion to work, the person is still going to have to buy a plain band to transfer the puck to a fancy band. My impression was they didn’t want to buy any band, just transfer an unused band to someone else.

It’s the rfid chips in the puck that are linked to the account. Once linked the puck cannot be transferred. The band is just a strap.

Oh I know what the OP was asking I stated that I doubt that will ever happen to be able to actually unlink and relink a band to another account. I can't see Disney ever allowing it and if they did I can only imagine the issues that would occur lol.
