Magic band room sync question

Figured someone has already run into this, thanks in advance for advice....

We're going to meet up at BLT in march with some friends who will have been onsite elsewhere for a few days before we get there. I'm not sure of what the best approach will be in terms of getting them initial room access, as we'll be arriving several hours after check in and they'll need the room prior (I'll do online checkin). I'm going to add them to our reservation, but will not be managing their park tickets/fast passes as they will have a different park day schedule. They would have already had their APs tied to a different initial set of magic bands. Are we best off getting them a new set of bands just for our room? If so, will they still need to keep the old MB set to use at the parks or is it easy for them to get the APs moved over to the new bands somewhere onsite? Thanks!

Are they going to be staying in your room, or are they just visiting?

APs are not tied to specific magic bands, they are tied to the guest themselves. I can view all of my park tickets/AP on any magic band that is active in my profile. If you are going to add them to your reservation, then the default will be for Disney to send them a magic band anyway unless they decline it. Whether or not you manage their MDE account (tickets/FP) is irrelevant. Any of their active magic bands SHOULD work to open the door to the room as long as they are on the reservation. If you've done online check-in and the room is ready when they arrive and are on the reservation but their magic band won't let them access the room (it happens frequently), then they just need to go to the front desk and have them scan their band to fix the issue. Same will go for you when you arrive.

If they are staying at another Disney resort, they will NOT be able to also add your BLT room, unless they check out first.

Yes they will need to physically check out of the old resort and then check in at the new resort. Sometimes the CMs at the old resort can do both. They will know if it works if their MBs work on the new room.

BTW, they can decline the MBs for either or both rooms and just use and old MB that is shown as active on their MDE account.

The OP stated that his "friends who will HAVE BEEN staying onsite elsewhere for a few days" which seems as though they would be checked out already, but if not, then clearly they would have to be checked out of the old resort before checking into BLT, basically making it a split-stay.

If that's the case why don't they state that. They could just be coming over to use BLT. A 2nd MB will not help if they are book else where.

I don't know, let's wait for the OP to clarify and then we'll know for sure! I quoted what was stated in the original post. I take the words "HAVE BEEN" to indicate in the past, otherwise I would have expected the words "ARE staying" elsewhere to have been used. If you interpret that differently, so be it.

Regardless if I interpreted the initial post correctly or not, this really isn't that difficult, if the friends have a reservation at another resort then obviously they won't be able to use their magic band to access a room at BLT because they won't be able to be added to the BLT reservation. On the other hand, if they are in fact added to the BLT reservation (as I stated in my initial reply) then the process will be as I clearly explained above and will hopefully clear up the confusion the OP has regarding the information accessed by the magic bands being tied to specific guests versus specific bands.

Thank you everyone! Apologies I didn't respond faster, I needed to wait for a work break.

Yes, they are staying with us and will be checking out of AOA that day before coming to BLT, I will make sure they go to the desk and make the checkout formal.

Thank you very much for the AP details and how that works with the magic bands, that was the part I really have zero experience with. Your detailed answer was perfect.

Regards,
Allison
