Can someone either talk me through or send me a link on what to do once you have Magic Bands. How long does it take to set them up, how do you connect them to your My Disney Account and do they come pre charged or do you have to charge them up before you can use them. Thanks a lot.

Only MagicBand+ work at DLR (if you are buying them at the park, that’s all they sell so don’t worry about that).

You do have to charge them. Bring an extra battery pack and it will charge in a few hours in your bag or backpack. It comes with a short charging cord. They use a proprietary cord, but if you ever need a replacement, they are pretty cheap. (Under $10, last I looked.)

If you do not want the lights or haptics on your first day, it will work to scan into rides and with the Photopass locations (ride photos are not integrated with MB+) even if you do not charge the band right away. It does need to be charged enough to pair though.

They come with instructions which were pretty easy. Pretty sure there’s also videos on YouTube if you’re getting them before your trip. If you are planning to get them in the park, the cashier can walk you through pairing, as long as it’s not too busy. If the shop is too busy, take them to a blue guest experience umbrella, they’ll have you connected lickety-split.

That's great, thank you so much.

Correction to some info above:

At Disneyland, the park entry, Lightning Lane and PhotoPass photographer integration with MagicBand+ all use NFC which requires zero power on the band side for use or for setup. While you do use your phone for the initial setup, it will be doing an NFC scan, not a pairing operation.

The only feature that requires power on the MB+ side is the lighting up and vibration features. This uses Bluetooth both for setup on your phone and in use at the parks. This requires the band to have power. If you aren’t interested in this feature, your MB+ should never need a charge.

Thanks so much for the clarification. This helps a lot as we will be arriving at the Tropicana early evening after a long day looking around and a flight from San Francisco so I am not sure if we will feel like heading out to search for and buy Magic bands just to charge them and get them set up for the next day. With this info we can now choose to just get them early on our first day and use them for LL's and then worry about charging them and getting them set up for the other features later when we return to our hotel for an afternoon rest. Thanks again.

I found the process of associating the ticket (NFC) to be super easy so I think you should be fine with that.

Thanks for your thoughts. I feel like I am getting better at all this technology stuff so I feel like I should be okay to set it all up. I'm looking forward to the ease of checking in for LL's with Magic Bands and also getting through the gates. I want to be on my phone as little as possible. I know I will still have to book LL's through my phone but it will be nice not to have to get my phone out to scan through turnstiles all the time.
