We are flying down next month and have an extremely late flight so to save some money I made a one night room only at ASM before moving to AKL for our package. We plan on going straight to the park the next day, if I do online check in can I use my dining plan or do we physically have to check in at AKL first

You do not physically have to check in. However, when you do your online check-in, select 7am as your arrival time at AKL. It doesn't actually matter when you arrive, but this way everything will be ready to go. We ran into this particular problem last trip when we switched hotels, because we had our arrival time as 4pm in online checkin. The CR had to call GF (while we were sitting at Crystal Palace having breakfast) and have them change it to 7am, and then everything worked fine.

Do online check in with early morning arrival time. If you get a text with your room number, you know you are good to go, and your tickets at dining plan will be active.

If you don't get the text, stop at the ASM desk in the morning to make sure tickets and dining plan are active before leaving. They'll be able to check it, and activiate it (or call AKL for you), if needed, to have it activated.
