Magic Band Question

I have a question regarding adding the ability to pay for food and merchandise with the Magic Band. At my resort can I give them cash that they can "load " onto the band or can it only hold credit card information? I am debating whether or not I should by a Disney gift card at Walgreens to use for dining or if I can just use the cash on my Magic Band. I hope this question makes sense. I'm not quite sure how to word it.

You do not load anything onto the band.

All the band does is read back to your resort reservation which is linked to your My Disney Experience account.

You cannot link a Disney gift card to MDX, but you can use one to pay off your room bill.

What you'd really need to find out is if you can give the front desk at your resort the gift cards in advance and have them added onto your room account so you can charge back to them. I haven't seen that you can. I have seen that you can pay off your room account with gift cards, but you have to do that before you hit the spending limit at which they will charge your credit card.

This indicates to me that you do need a credit card linked, but as I 've never done it any way other than with a credit card, I don't have any firsthand info. But I do know that you cannot at this time charge purchases with the magic band unless you have a resort reservation that is set up for room charges.

I'm positive they could do cash with the KTTW cards, so I don't see why they couldn't do it with the Magic Bands.

According to this thread on PassPorter boards, you can use cash or gift cards for charging to the room, but it has to be done at check-in, whereas you can set up a credit card on your MDX account ahead of time.

Yes, but how did they use cash? Were you able to give cash to the front desk to apply to your room account and then charge it down, or are you required to use the cash to pay off your room account AFTER you have charged items? I know you can do the latter but am not so sure about the former.

You can apply cash or a gift card anytime. On our last trip in January, in my small wristlet, I found a forgotten stash of euros leftover from December. I took it down to the front desk and they converted it to dollars and I just applied it to my room account mid trip.
