I tried searching for this, but couldn't find any current thread on this question.

Has anyone heard about changes in the way that people can purchase magic bands? I heard you'd be able to purchase them differently in August, where you do not need a ticket linked immediately at purchase. Can anyone confirm or refute?

I have not heard this and I honestly don't think it will change.

I haven't heard anything like that. I think the reason for the in person/ticket requirement is to make it easier to link to the person's MDX account.

I believe something happened relative to the collectible Frozen bands being sold at DHS for a time, and then policy was again affirmed to require a ticket for linking. I don't foresee any other changes, accidental or otherwise, in the future.

Highly doubtful. We were at Studios on saturday when MDE was down. Wife purchased the special edition Olaf and they could not link it. They ended up refunding her purchase price immediately when they could not link it. Sure they would of eventually sold them but its was the first time that Disney did not want to take our money.

Probably has to be linked to a ticket at purchase so that it is rendered useless
( except as a collectible ) on eBay. ;) Not that it still won't sell for $100s Even empty MB shipping boxes sell over there.

I have 3 boxes. Wonder how much I can get?

:lmao: I'm not kidding people will buy anything. If it is just a regular box ( not limited edition, AP, etc ) it would probably get you $2.00 :lmao: Seriously you'd be better off keeping it to store your MBs so you won't be searching for them for the next trip.

Rumor has it that the bands need to be linked so that villains won't resell them to unknowing tourists visiting the parks. "Hey here is a band with a three day ticket on it for $50" then of course there isn't anything on it.

Starting August 15, guests will be able to purchase an unlinked band. Cast members will have the option to "Link It Later" upon guest purchase. So the guest will buy the band and the cast member will activate it without linking any media. The guest can go onto MDE later on and attach media to it. The reasoning behind it is for guests under age 3 who may not have a ticket or guests who want to buy the band as a gift for someone going to Disney in the future.

I just booked for 2015 on Monday and that is what the CM told me on the phone. I didn't give it much thought as they aren't always in the loop(and didn't post b/c I figured that is what most would think), but now that I am seeing this report I am excited. I have friends going in August and am keeping my fingers crossed this will happen so she can grab the kids some cute MB for our upcoming trip.

So...did this actually happen?

Yes, you can buy magic bands without Tickets, however it is standard colored bands only and not the limited edition ones; those will still require ticket media.

MagicBands can now be purchased without being link to ticket media. Solid color bands can be purchased at the four theme parks, Downtown Disney, Contemporary Resort, Pop Century Resort, Art of Animation Resort, and Port Orleans Resort. More locations may be added in the future. This does not apply to the specialty printed bands that have been available, such as Frozen or Star Wars. There is a purhcase limit of 5 bands of each type.

Not sure there are plans to sell online.

.

Yea I am completely aware of where to purchase them in the parks, that was not my question.

My question was can they be purchased online?

No. Online was not listed as a location to purchase them.
