I'm not sure I understand what you are asking.

It gives 3 options on linking your band - 1) link to the app 2) link to your ticket, or 3) link to your smartphone. It doesn't explain what the difference is between, for example, linking the band to your ticket, vs linking to your smartphone, or the disneyland app. I'm asking what's the difference between those 3 options.

so, just following along to see if it's worth purchasing for our upcoming trip in early December. I was reading about how to setup the band. Step 1 and 2, easy. Step 3, it say "follow the instructions in the app to link the MagicBand+ to your Disney account, assign to your ticket or pass and pair it to yoru smartphone". No explanation of the difference between the 3 options. Does anyone know what that might be?

Step 3 is three successive steps, not separate options. More like this:

3a. Follow the instructions in the app to the link the MagicBand+ to your Disney account.
3b. Assign [the MagicBand+] to your ticket or pass.
3c. Pair [the MagicBand+] to your smartphone.

You'll do them in that order.
