I have DVC, so I stay overnight at WDW several times a year. Each time I get a new set of Magic Bands, which I really don't need. I'd rather have one Magic Band with all of my info on it rather than new ones sent to me each time. Any advice?

I have 4 sets which is 3 too many. :goodvibes DH I go for weekends a lot and are pass holders. There is a constant "pick your magic bands now" thing on my Disney Experience page.

The last few times we went, we brought our favorite bands and used them instead. Don't pick them in advance and when you check in next time, ask them to recycle them. They'll use the ones you bring.

My understanding is that the magic bands were never designed or intended to last forever. They are more or less disposable. Most guests travel to WDW once every few years, therefor asking them to hold on and keep up with their bands for that long would be crazy.

The program is essentially still in its infantcy, having only been full operational for less than a year. I believe as we see the MyMagic+ program grow and mature that we will see more permanent and durable magic bands issued to annual passholders. That way anyone with an annual pass connected to their My Disney Experience account will not be issued a new magic band each time they book a resort room.

Each of your MB's links to all of your info. No need to get a new one each time. Just don't customize any more and they won't send them to you ahead of time. When you check in to the resort, they will try to give you the plane grey ones. Decline those and use any of your old bands instead.

Seconding this comment.
I called Disney about this and was told that as long as I don't confirm my shipping address, they won't send me new MBs, they will offer me grey ones at the hotel and I can decline those and use my old ones instead.

I was told you don't have to get new bands everytime, you could use the ones you have because magic bands would be good for 2 yrs.

I was also told this when I called Disney a month or so ago. Got my first magic band back in May and don't want to get another when the one I have is just fine. The lovely lady I spoke with assured me that for the life of the band you have (approx 2 years with the battery) you can reuse it instead of getting a new one. Now exactly how it gets set up to be reused when you go to Disney again I'm not sure. Will find that out as I get closer to my solo trip date this fall!

Question:

We have a split stay coming up. One night at All Star Sports, followed by a week at AKL-Kidani. We can customize Magic Bands for both stays. However, if what I'm reading above is accurate, if we don't customize the second set (for AKL), we won't get them sent to us? I already confirmed the shipping address, so that may have already sealed the deal of getting them sent to us. If we don't get the second set sent to us, this first set would work at AKL and continue to hold our tickets?

To add to this, two members of our party have annual passes that they used last March. Am I reading correctly that if they don't customize for this trip, their bands they used previously would still work? OR, conversely, if they did customize, the new bands would retain their annual passes?

Magic Bands do not contain batteries. They have an embedded passive RFID tag inside them. A passive tag is an RFID tag that does not contain a battery; the power is supplied by the reader. When radio waves from the reader are encountered by a passive rfid tag, the coiled antenna within the tag forms a magnetic field. The tag draws power from it, energizing the circuits in the tag. The tag then sends the information encoded in the tag's memory. This is why cast members tell you to tap your band to the reader, so that they can make sure it is close enough to be energized and read by the reader. It is the same technology that is used in many hotels now.

That's incorrect. You did describe the passive read correctly however MagicBands have an active mode as well. That mode uses a battery.

It's how they automatically associate ride photos for instance.
