Magic Band HELP

I know there's a million posts about magic bands but I haven't found a clear answer on what I'm looking for. My husband, 2 year old, and my dad and I are going to Disney next month. My dad isn't on our resort reservations.

My daughter is 2 and has no real use for her magic band. Can my dad link his ticket and all to her band? I know they are non transferable but in reality if he's accompanying a 2 year old and she gets in free and his adult ticket is on it, it shouldn't be an issue right?

Regardless he will be given her band so he can access the hotel room to babysit (muhahaha) it would just be much more convenient if his ticket was on it too.

**also, I know I could add him to the reservation and get one but I don't want to do all of that when my daughter will have a MB that won't be utilized.

Nothing is "on" a magic band. All it is is a link or key to a guest's profile on MDE.

Your daughter is receiving a band because she is an individual listed on your resort reservation. That band is forever "hers", because Disney is assigning it to her. She will not have a ticket in her profile, because she doesn't need one, but that is the profile it will be linked to, not your father's.

His ticket and fastpass reservations are on his profile, so they cannot be accessed using your daughter's band.

(And if you do decide to add your father to your reservation, if you have a regular room you will have to pay a fee for an extra adult. That would be quite a bit more than just buying him a magic band.)

Hi - I am not an expert but why not add him to your reservation? I have added names to my reservation before just to give them their magic band and (more importantly) the resort -level perks. Other than that, I think that any one can use any magicband as long as the existing account attached to it is tuned off. Alternatively, he also can purchase a new MB. The issue is not getting a MB but his not being a resort guest. Unless he has a reservation, he won't get the early fast passes and other perks. So, if you only have 3 in your room now I'd say you should add him (even if he isn't actually staying with you). Anyway, I can't wait to see what others say about your question.

The highlighted sentence is not true. Bands are non-transferable whether they are active or not, and besides, making it inactive would negate what the original poster wants to use it for in any case.

But the rest of the response raises the question, is your father staying at a Disney resort? cstan makes some good points about the perks of staying onsite, and potential issues if he is not.

So I can't link his ticket to her profile/MB? Do they check IDs at the gate or something? Just seems a little ridiculous.

Yea he's staying with us. But I didn't put him on the reservation when I made it because the person on the phone said i didnt need to. I figured he could just use my daughter's band. But will add him to the reservation if it's going to be complicated.

It's just frustrating the MB can't be linked to other people's tickets just because of the name on the MDE account who doesn't even need it. Sighhh

I would just call and add him to the reservation. If your bands have already shipped they will give him one at check in. Your daughter will need her band for FP+s even though she doesn't need a ticket.

Wow, I can't imagine why the CM would tell you that. Without being on the reservation, he is not eligible for Disney's Magical Express or EMH hours, and, as you have already determined, will not receive a MagicBand. This just sounds really odd to me. So are you doing it this way to avoid the extra adult fee?

Besides, it's a safety issue, with fire codes and occupancy. I'd absolutely add him to the reservation, even if it would cost me a bit extra.

No ID check at the gate, but your daughter's profile will say she's 2. Not sure if you can link an adult ticket to that.

Not true. In fact, there is no way to book fastpasses for a child too young to have a ticket. They can just enter with a parent who has a fastpass.

I don't know either....this is the first disney trip I've planned. I asked if I needed to add him because he would be staying with us and he said no. We booked the Royal Rooms on Port Orleans Riverside which is good for 4 adults so I will add him to avoid any problems.

Not trying to avoid any fees. Just saw we were getting 3 magic bands and wanted to give my daughter's assigned band to my dad for his ticket. But with this new information about transportation and EMH it seems my only solution is to add him to the reservation! Lol

I have only added names to an existing DVC reservation and not a traditional one, but can't image there is a difference. You'll find it an easy 3 minute phone call to reservations (sadly proceeded by 15 minute wait on hold). The perks of being an official resort guest are huge. Again, I'm not an expert but this is what we've done twice in the past and we are glad we did. Have s great vacation!

No worries, and sorry if it seemed I was implying you were trying to skirt the system. It CAN be a pretty overwhelming process, and logic would dictate that he could use your daughter's band. But that is not how Disney set up the system.

Even with an occupancy of 4, there is an extra charge for more than 2 adults, $15 per night for POR.

No worries! I didn't take it negatively! It's overwhelming but the more info Im reading the more I'm beginning to understand it.

That may well rank in the top 5 of worse things said by a phone CM
It is flat out wrong, as you figured out by other posters
I'm mostly just flabbergasted a reservation CM would tell someone to put someone in the room but not put them on the reservation

I called and added him to our reservation. I'm just happy its fixed now lol maybe he was new or didn't understand me when I said he would be with us.

Now my Dad will have his own magic band and resort benefits! Things just got so much easier :)

Just as an aside, even if your MB have shipped, you can still customize one for him. Just check your account for the addition and the option for him will pop up. I'm a regular Disney attendee and just did this myself for the first time. You don't have to wait until you get to the resort to pick up his band.

I'm glad that you are on here now Michelle! This is one of the best places to get answers for sure. Everyone is very informative and helpful!
