I am here at WDW. CM's are pretty diligent about asking for and checking your drivers license against the DVC membership card. My problem is this. What good does the magic band do if you have to still carry around your drivers license so you get the DVC discounts for purchases, dining, etc? I think it totally defeats the purpose of the convenience the MB is supposed to provide. Rant over.

I guess the magic band doesn't save your actual picture on it... is a bunch of codes with your name and birth date and expiration dates for Hotel/passes they still need to check if is "really" you otherwise, what will stop other person to use your band?, they either star scanning fingers everywhere or add the picture to the band profile

But if you are carrying the member card anyway, what is one more in your pocket. If they could link ALL to the magic band (still need to ask for discount) that would be awesome. Unless you have the digital version perhaps? Wonder if the CM would allow a pic of your license if you show them from your phone.

Well if I lose my membership card no big deal. Losing my drivers license is another story.

At the very start of the MB's marketing was saying it was going to be the only thing you needed to carry. They quickly dropped that from the material. It's just a wearable replacement for another card.

Totally, but apart from some marketing stuff it was never going to be the only thing one needed to bring.

The MB is one MORE thing I bring now, along with everything I already brought.

DVC is small potatoes for Disney to add info to the MDE programming. Also Disney offers discounts, they look great, but they don't want you to actually use them.

That's why I finally retired my beloved phone case from the 2005 DVC Member Cruise! I bought one large enough to accommodate the required things I need to bring to Disney! It has a shoulder strap so I have less of a chance to lose it.

I also had hoped the MBs would simplify things, but it's become another item that Disney can sell. I only use free ones. Actually I mostly only use the very first I got, the last 4 digits in its ID code are 0103, my birthday!

While I was annoyed at first at the lack of AP/DVC/TiW on the Magic Band, I came to realize that throwing a CC holder in my bag wasn't a huge deal. And I'd never leave the resort room without a photo ID anyway.

A CC I can replace, same with a membership card. I don't want to chance losing my DL if I'm staying on Disney property. Beauty of the MB so I thought.

I don't even want the new MB's. They are bigger then the current ones and I see no added convenience.

Disney wants it to be easy for you have access via the magic band to room, parks, fastpass rides, and making charges to the room. However, it also wants enough complications added to create a probability that you will blow your chance at getting a discount.

Yes. No license no discount despite having every other form of id or CC with your name on it.

I do have to mention...

We went to Wave the first. Ugh you we were there recently. DH forgot his dvc card in the room at GFV. The server grabbed the mb reader, scanned MY band (in the associate BUT somehow DH's dvc account is linked with my mde account), and showed me the screen. It showed dvc member clearly. He gave us the discount.

So it's in there.

But they still need to know that you are you. DH was sitting right there and he did show the server his ID voluntarily.

I lost my DL on a walk in town a year ago. Cost a whole $25 to replace. Not seeing the big issue with losing it. My father has no govt ID at all and still flies, and I'm way less sketchy than he is so I wouldn't worry about the flight home either.

Plus I carry ID always, along with my insurance card.

You never know when a day is going to end up in the ER and even though the law says they have to treat you, I know from personal experience that the non-medical staff will make it hellish for you until they get that card and ID from you.

And I want to be prepared in case I get carded buying booze.

As for thinking it was the beauty of the mb...seriously, you couldn't have thought that that was the case for long. It wasn't the case three years ago when they came out. The magical time where we could have thought that was with the early marketing which was *marketing*. Of course it was never going to be "a thing".

I never go out without my ID & medical cards so the DVC card is no problem taking along too.

Happy Birthday! I have to admit I have never read any of the numbers on our MBs. I am impressed that you did and it was your birthday.

Well I don't want to deal with a lost drivers license for flight reasons. I don't see how it would be an easy process getting back in the flight. Yeah you lose it at home no big deal pay for another one. But I'm 1000 miles away from home while at Disney. Insurance info is easily retrievable at the hospitals and ER. That I can deal with. Just as you said the info is in there. If I have additional ID or CC that have my name what's the concern? There's more to this.

Usually when you see an increase in requested ID, it is due to the discounts being abused. I could hand my magic band and even DVC card to anyone. Only with photo ID do they know it really is mine. I never go anywhere without my photo ID.

Last trip we took a picture of our driver license and member card on our phone and showed the picture every time. It was nice not having to bring the physical id's to the parks.
