I am curious for all you DCL buffs to chime in here.....I am well aware of the "soft" differences of the programming/restaurants and the like in the differences between the two ships.....3 and 4 day vs. 7 day are well understood.
How about the "hard" differences like the physical structure of the ships?
It seems to me in a recent picture I viewed of them side by side the front bows of the ships were clearly different...... :confused3
Also, I have sneaking suspicion that construction of a third ship is already underway.....and Disney being so clever and secret in some ways could totally pull this off under all of our eyes and ears....don't you think?

:wizard: I can just envision the "unvieling" of the 3rd ship being summer of 2006.....so the Magic can go to the west coast and stay there next summer.
Remember the story of how Walt Disney secretly bought the land which is now WDW and kept it a secret from the World for many years? :wizard: :rolleyes1

Anything is possible with DISNEY  :cheer2: :wizard: :cool1:

Hey Dis Nurse,

It's a neat idea about building a ship in secret but Disney is a publicly traded company and I don't think they could commit to that kind of expenditure without disclosing it. I don't have any inside info, but that's my thoughts.

The Magic has round portholes where the Wonder has somewhat larger sort of oval portholes I believe in the Cat 8 and 9 outside staterooms.

Magic has ART DECO interior design, Wonder is ART NOUVEAU interior design.

I haven't been on the Magic yet (going in Oct) but I understand the Navigators veranda in cat 7 is a smaller opening on the Magic, compared to the ones on the Wonder.

Goofy's hanging off of the back of the Magic, Donald and the nephews are on the back of the Wonder.

The Magic was built in two halves and brought together and "mated". I think (but don't know for sure) that the Wonder was built in one place.

Roy Disney and his wife are the "god parents" of the Magic, don't know who got that honor for the Wonder.

Sorry, but the bows are identical...as are all structural elements.
Since there is a several year backup for new ship construction, it would be impossible to Disney to hide the construction of a new ship.

Mickey graces the entrance to Lumiere's on Magic... I think Ariel is at the entrance to Triton's on the Wonder.

Structurally -yes, the gold ornamentation is different.

The "chandelier" in the atrium's are different - but both designed by Dale Chihuly

The Magic has Sorcerer Mickey on the bow. The Wonder has Steamboat Willie.

:cool1: You guys are great for all the insight! Thanks for the comparisons! I will probably never set foot on the Wonder....we are only interested in 7 night cruises. :flower: I bet it is just as fabulous!

P.S. Then how did Walt Disney get around the "secret" purchasing of land.....???? I recall he had several different private investors (ie; arbitrary names....soometimes a compnay's names) front as the new owners of the land. He kept a darn good secret for a number of years! :cheer2: What a vision that man had! :cheer2: And boy, are we thankful!

So how come it's not impossible that the 3rd ship is being built right now under someone else's name or a generic name?

dis nurse...

you also have to remember that we live in a much different information age now where we have access to alot more info than people did 40 years ago...i think disney will annouse they are finally going to start building a new ship! I am from Oklahoma but i agree with other disers that say CA, the home of the original Disneyland is getting the short end of the stick, esp if the magic goes there eventually but FL gets a new ship...Dsiney needs to put a new ship on the West Coast that will be equipped to go to Alaska! :cold:

;) You are probably right.....I am just dreamin'.... :wizard: and I can tell you that in my selfishness I hope the new ship DOES go to Florida.....I will never be interested in going to LA and getting on a DCL ship to go up and down the west coast...much less the Pacific Ocean....ooooohhh Burr! Not near the scenery and "tropical" feel....Alaska (although beautiful) is not for us Caribbean lovers. I grew up in Calif, currently live on the west coast still...and will probably never even go to Disneyland!
The only DCL fix (for us) is a DCL from Post Canaveral.....throwing in a short jaunt to WDW while we are there! :cool1: Now that Delta flies east from here to Salt Lake....I can get to Florida just as easily and cheaper than trying to fly to dirty Southern Calif! Nobody flame me, please!

Speaking of the chandelier, on our last Magical Cruise in January 2005, it seemed that many of the lights in chandelier were burned out. There were only a few of the glass flowers lit up. Does anyone know if there are usually more lights in the chandelier?

Tinkerbell is the God Mother of the Wonder. This was the first time in history that an animated character was given the honor!

Tinkerbell was at the dedication of the ship in the form of laser lights and such!

And yes the Wonder was built as a whole, unlike the Magic which was built as 2 halves.

Dan
