After our cruise we spent 6 days at Vero Beach. Its very relaxing and a beautiful resort. We spent our time running, fishing, swimming, boogey-boarding, playing mini-golf, attended the un-birthday party, played marbles and went to the campfires. You wouldnt believe this, but its 11:00pm here and my kids are having a sleepover
they just started teaching the other kids the campfire songs (Hi, My name is Joe, aaaaannndd I work in a button factory
) Minigolf is $1 a round but you can purchase unlimited plays during your stay for $5.
Following Vero Beach we headed to the Boardwalk for 6 days. We decided to not do the Disney parks but did visit Typhoon Lagoon and Blizzard Beach. We also spent a day at Bush Gardens. Its worth a visit, but its not Disney. Very pretty, clean, well landscaped but we both noticed they dont have the load/unload process figured out. We were going to also visit Gatorland and Wet-n-Wild but decided to just hang out at the resort. Our kids love Community Hall activities and both pools. My wife and kids rented bikes one morning and rode while I ran. We spent some evenings watching the performers on the Boardwalk, shopping and eating ice cream at Beaches-n-Cream. We went to Cirque du Soleil. Awesome!!! A must see. They had a promotion where kids got in for $25 and included was a bucket of popcorn for each and a clown nose. You can also purchase soda for $4.50 and the cups are refillable.
I asked my son the day before we left (day 19) if he was ready to go home, sleep in his own bed and be with his friends. His answer was, No. I could honestly say that if we stayed longer we wouldnt have been bored. Were we ready to get back home? Im not sure. Yes and no. With DVC we felt right at home. DVC has been worth every penny.
Weve made many trips to Disney from the Midwest. We try to stress to our kids how fortunate we are; that many families dont get to go. This sounds cliché, but I thank God for the things weve been blessed with. We live in a great country, which allows free speech, promotes creativity and the opportunity to make a living and live life.
