Magic 6/29-7/6 Mexico Cruise Report

We were in boarding group 4 and we started boarding by 11:45. Some of the room were ready close to 1 but unfortunately, we had to wait until about 1:45 to get in so I had a workout lugging our carry-ons around the ship (I forgot to mention that we brought 6 bottle of wine with us). Parrot Cay seemed to be the better lunch buffet option as well. It felt less like you were dining in a buffet and the food just seemed to look better at PC vs. Topsiders.

The seas were not bad. From time to time we hit a decent size swell but it wasn't continuous so it didn't bother anyone. However for some reason I always tend to feel it coming back north between Ensenada and San Diego. I was told that I'm not alone and that those waters are notorious for that movement. One Bonine and I was fine 20 minutes later.

As for the dinner rotation. We had 5:45 APPLAPL. I was worried about having the Formal and Semi-Formal nights in Parrot's Cay but we fond that it was our favorite kitchen among the three in terms of quality and our table was by the windows. Besides, it took the "stuffiness" out of Formal Night.

I also realized that I forgot to mention that we checked in a case of water. I bought 28 bottles at Target for $5 as opposed to the case that they sold on the ship for $32. I can't stand drinking from a bathroom faucet so it was great always having a bottle handy in the room or to take with us around the ship and in port. It also helped us remember to drink lots of water!

I'm also very happy to report that with all of the good food - we only gained 2 pounds! All we did was take the stairs, drank lots of water, and tried to avoid the cream sauces (and never went to Scoops - I intentionally tried not to find it). Other people in our group were complaining that they couldn't fit into some of the clothes they brought by the sixth day. Only 3 days after I got off the boat, I'm back down to the same weight before I got on the Magic.:yay:

Thanks for the response! I loved your trip report!

I was on the same cruise as you. We had a great time.

For the person who asked about the tropical storm that was off the coast of mexico, for us it made sleeping really difficult that night (the night we sailed from Mazatlan to Puerto Vallarta). We didn't fall asleep that night until almost 3:00 am (then had to get up by 6:30 to make it in time for our PV shore excursion). The ship seemed to really be rocking that night and the bunk bed in our cabin was creaking terribly with each sway of the ship. Other than that night though, things were fine and we slept great the following night.

Thanks for posting the 4th of July deck party photos. We were watching Wall-E in the theater at that time and missed the deck party.

That was the day we were in Mazatlan. We didn't have an exursion planned for that day, so we just shopped around in that market area at the ship terminal. We headed back early, to enjoy the pools, only to find that the kids pool was closed down and they looked like they were doing a thorough cleaning. I was kind of upset that they were doing that during the middle of the day, but it sounds like it wasn't a routine cleaning. Any idea what happened?

The DCL check in is between the Great hearth, and the Hearthstone Lounge in the GC. Just have your passports and online check in forms with you when you go there, or any necessary items (birth certificate, etc) you'd need for check in if you were at the port :thumbsup2 They give you your boarding pass #2 after you check in ;)

We were on the June 15 Mexican Riviera. We stayed at the Grand Californian hotel before the cruise and checked in at the hotel. We did not receive a #2 boarding pass (neither did my sister that checked in at a different time than we did). We arrived at the port around 10:30 and received a #5 boarding pass. It really didn't make a big difference. We were among the first on board. We had no trouble finding outside seating at Topsiders.

So you checked in at GC, and received your boarding pass at the port? Or they gave you a #5 boarding pass at GC? I'm only asking because the woman who checked me in there, almost forgot to give me our passes. So I was just curious. ;) She mistakenly forgot to give me my youngests KTTW card, and it was sent to our room later that day. :)

We received our #5 boarding pass at the port on Sunday morning. We received our KTTW cards at the hotel on the Friday before the cruise. Our KTTW cards wouldn't open our door so they had to be reissued at Guest Services.

Our KTTW cards didn't work either...they also didn't have our dining rotation printed on them. So I was clueless until they found out for us at lunch on embarkation day. But when we took the keys to guest services, apparently there were quite a few keys that didn't work. It was all good in the end though :thumbsup2 We had a marvelous time! :goodvibes

That was me asking. :) We were on the week before and saw reports of the storm and immediately thought of you (you meaning the next group on the ship.) Glad to hear it wasn't too bad!

I asked the CM standing there and she just said "an accident." lol

I was there also when they were cleaning it. I got a little more info. POOPOO. She said that no one fessed up. I SEEN IT WITH OWN EYESpirate: (please say that with an accent)

When we saw them cleaning my husband and I were joking that maybe there had been a "Caddyshack" sort of diaper incident. Guess we were right!

Glad to see they did a thorough clean up.

I told DH that someone must have pooped in the pool and he gave me this horrified/disgusted look...lol

Just went back to read this, and we were in this dining rotation, too! I wonder how many of us here were?

Well, we stayed at PP the night before, so I checked in at the Cruise desk at GC and they gave us our boarding pass there...I guess everyone that checked in at GC got boarding pass 2. Which saved us much time since we wanted to go on our favorite rides at DL during EE. But we left PP at 9:45am, and it only took 30 minutes to get to the port (not real busy freeways on a Sunday morning) ;) But if this helps at all....when we got off the ship this past Sunday at around 8:30, there were already people going into the port on the opposite side....now I'm not sure if they were able to check in yet or not, or if DCL was keeping them all downstairs waiting, as I wasn't over there to actually see. HTH :thumbsup2 If you have any other questions don't hesitate to ask :goodvibes

Hi everyone! :goodvibes We are on the August 10 cruise and are staing at the DLH for 4 nights before the cruise. We are using DVC points for our hotel stay. I noticed that many people are mentioning checking in at the DVC desk in the GC. Can anyone do this??? Or is it this a special check-in for people who booked their hotel as a cruise package?

Also, did you use Disney transportation from DL and how can this be arranged? Thank you for your info.

Does anyone know what the castaway gifts are.

BCNB103

We got a nice, full-sized, zippered black/red nylon tote bag with 2 mesh outside pockets and a larger "drop-in pocket, a red mesh bag inside, a Mickey pen, 2 kid-sized water/squirt bottles, and a litle spiral notebook with a pen. If there was anything else in there, the kids confiscated it before I got to it! LOL

Yes, anyone that is staying in a Disneyland hotel can take part in the special check-in. It's quick and easy! There is a DCL desk in the Grand Californian lobby that will be open on Friday and Saturday. It never looked very busy while we were there. I'm not sure of the exact hours either. You don't have to use DCL transfers either, but if you do they will give you information on pick up as well. They will give you your Key to the World Card and Castaway Club lanyards if you are a repeat cruiser. When you arrive at the port, you don't have to wait in those long check in lines.
