Magic 11/20/04 Thanksgiving Cruisers?

Yes, I booked banana boats and parasailing for the first day on CC (DD8 will be turning into DD9 that day) and the Fury Catamaran Sail, Snorkle and Beach Party for Cozumel. Still waiting to see if we make it into Grand Cayman but if we do, we'll go to Stingray City.

Sherry

Actually I guess I should have said something like "Ye, doggies" for all you Texans. ;)

What the hey...football is football. DS is hooked on any sports, but I doubt they will let him in Diversions...he's only 12. And DH, well like I've told ya'll before...sports just isn't his thing. Well, okay he does like hockey, but it looks like the players are locked out for now. Depending on what else is going on I just might have to check out some of the games. I'm just a girl from southern Illinois...home of the Southern Illinios University Salukis...#1 in the nation in their class...GO DAWGS!

I did see that on the excursions paper about a 2:45 pm departure from CC the first day...at least we will be back a second time on the cruise.

We did book the Getaway package at CC for both visits...hey, rent one get one free...such a deal! We also booked the Tulum Ruins for Cozumel for all three of us. As for Grand Cayman...hope it is up and running for us to go there. If not I can deal with Costa Maya if that is where they take us. I'm just happy to be going at all! In either of those ports I think we will just wander...I haven't wandered in a strange place in a few years. I think it's one of the best ways to see things. I'm not sure how adventurous the boys will be, but who cares? I'm taking them "where no man has gone before" or close to it. And yes, I've been brushing up on my Spanish. I can't let those college years go to waste.

Well, it's been a long day and I've got more like it the rest of the week. Take care you guys!

Hey, can you hear Styx singing..."Come sail away, come sail away, come sail away with me..." I can and it's getting louder.

Laura ºoº

Wmiller........yep, last sailing they were out of my miller lite on tap by Wed. But, Diversions "cheated" went out back and had it filled. He told me he had a "portable keg". By the end of the sailing he admitted that he was just filling with 2 cans and chargeing me the mug price!!!!

2:45 departure, ahhhhhhhhh that's why the snorkeling, biking, float rentals and the combanation of the three are pay for the first day get the second free.........if we are to sail at 2:45 that means everyone must be on the ship by 2:45. The horn will sound at 1:45 to board!!!! We are definately doing a catamaran on one of the stops.......not sure which one. we need to do some island hopping though.......our new entertainment room/bar is carribean/Jimmy Buffett themed........so we are looking for carribean themed bar attire.....

HHHHEEEEELLLLLLLLLPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'VE GOT THE ITCH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 50 days and now I'm spending too much time here thinking about the sailing!!!!!!! All I can here is that carribean song "Christmas in the Carribean..............we've got everything but snow!"

Oh my goodness...you guys are the best!:goodvibes

So I came home from work early today and guess what I had waiting for me? A PACKAGE FROM HERSHEY CHOCOLATE CO.!!! SO, I thought to myself, "why are we getting a Hershey package?" THEN, I looked at the label a little more closely and it says, "The Turkey Day Gang" -- LOL! You guys are way too much! We *LOVE* IT! There is so much chocolate! I wish I had brought home a digital camera from work (we don't have one of our own) so I can take a picture of it and post it. I will take a picture of it on Monday (if I could keep myself from ripping it open until then :bitelip: ) and post it.

We love it though...you all are just so thoughtful and generous!
:grouphug: That was way too much and totally unnecessary.

:worship:THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!!!:worship:

All my best,
Melody

Mel,

It's the least we could do for ya! You have been so great to keep the website for our crusie up and running even when you switched trips for yourself. One of my college instructors always said, "Nothing is as close to real love as real chocolate". So feel the love...:grouphug:

Lampskies and the rest of you all...

About the carribean attire...what are you all doing now? I've been reading here at the DIS that we no longer have Tropicalifragiclistic night and in it's place is Pirates of the Carribean. pirate: So, what are ya'll going to do? We had planned for a little tropical attire, but now....can't say that I really get into looking like a damsel in distress on a pirate ship. What are you guys planning to wear for this festive event?

Laura ºoº

Mel you are very welcome--You and EB enjoy the chocolates. It is the least we could for all the time and effort you put into a website you could have totally ignored once your plans were changed. We appreciate you! Thanks so much:lovestruc  :cheer2:

Laura, you are right, we do need to get to planning--what are the guys doing for formal night, tuxes, suits, shirts and ties?? We princesses need to knowprincess:

silver7,

You are so correct that we princesses princess: need to plan our attire. When I asked DH and DS yesterday if they still wanted to wear tuxes for formal night the answer was yes. Originally we had planned to borrow one for DS from the college...the choir DH used to sing with there wears tuxes and we have an "in" with the director and DH owns one, but now DH says "let's just rent them on the ship that way we don't have to pack them."

Well....the Passporters Guide suggests using cruiselineformal.com. I have never used this service before since this is our first cruise. It looks like a basic black tux with 2 shirts, cummerbund, tie, cufflinks and studs will run about $85. Shoes are $12...supsenders are $5 and vest/tie combos are $15 and $20. If you want a white jacket the cost is the same or if you want a black jacket and a white one then it will cost $120. There are other options so you can rent just the jacket or shirt. I guess this isn't too bad...considering a tux rental around here is about the same and that is for just one shirt and only one evening. We'll see what DH says and then decide...he and DS are the ones who have to wear it...not me. :smooth:

Personally, for formal night I found a steal of a dress at David's Bridal.:Pinkbounc It is a shatung silk gown in merlot...tank style top over a straight skirt which is attached under the top. I really got lucky and found it on the clearance rack for 1/5 the original cost and it's in a shade of my favorite color...red. :cheer2: Being that I am a vertically chanllenged woman I need to have it shortened and for once in my life I need to have the bust taken in. I plan to have the seamstress who made my wedding gown do it...she's great and reasonably priced. My biggest problem with it is what color of shoes? :scratchin I was thinking black, but can't find any that I really like. I have a pair of silver strappy ones that I think might do the trick...just haven't had time to see how they look. I am a shoe hound and I could pack a pair for each different outfit, but I really want to have room in my bags for other stuff. What's a princess to do?

As for the other evenings...not 100% sure. I will probably bring some skirts or summery dresses. I was wondering about capris and a nice sweater or blouse. What do you all who've sailed before think? I had the perfect dress for Tropical night...our mother - daughter banquet at women's group was Hawaiian themed, but now I haven't a clue. My TA said WDW travel told her that people are still wearing tropical attire for the Pirate Dinner. pirate: And honestly, DH and DS weren't any too thrilled about wearing pirate garb. I am not sure about the semi-formal night or when we go to Palo's. I am leaning toward a pair of black dress pants...slinky material with wide legs...and a shiny top. I expect that DH and DS will be wearing docker type pants and polos...DS may do the camp shirt with a nice white tee under it like the boys wear these days.

And of course there is the daytime wear...shorts and comfy tops are in order IMHO. I want to be very comfortable while I'm trekking those ruins at Tulum. ::yes::

Have you all started to really plan? I mean started lists and purchasing the needed items for the cruise? It just hit me that I've got about a month to get it all "together" and never having been on a cruise I find myself wondering if I'm forgetting anything or am I planning for too much. I did print the "must have" pakcing list someone posted here several months ago and will consult with it again.

Another question for the parents with older kids...I'm still undecided on allowing DS charging priveleges. He's 12 and really responsible with his money, but that is when it's hard cash or travellers checks not a piece of plastic. So, what are your thoughts? What do you plan to do?

And while I'm on the subject of kids...12 yrs. olds can check themselves in and out of the Lab...so what kind of guidelines do you plan to use for your older children. I'm leaning toward letting him do this with the instructions of infomring us where his next destination onboard will be or checking in with us before he goes to the next place.

Well, alrighty then...I've posted a book today. But, hey, I'm entitled...it's my birthday so I can do whatever...:upsidedow And now I think I will go read some more on my new book DS gave me today...the Birnbaum DCL guide. So far I like the Passporters better...more info. Birnbaum has more color photos.

For now,

Laura ºoº

:cake: :bday: :rockband:

Happy Birthday!

My head was swimming when I read your post--realizing that I have not REALLY thought about much along the clothing line. I downlowded the same list, and have been tweaking it for my MIL and kids. Never mind that I have not looked at the one for me! I am taking the excercise and WISH thanksgiving challenge, so I am putting off buying myself anything until I get to where I want to be. I am lucky living near the water, as we have tropical clothing stores here, so I don't need to kill myself getting the tropical stuff.

I am, however, going to do something kinda silly before we leave. I am completely decorating the inside of my house for Christmas, so I will not be super stressed to do it when I get back.:p

I will let my kids have charging privileges, but they are very frugal (hmm, wonder where they get that from:cool: ) and probably will not charge much. I let my kid check himself out of the lab with the same instructions as you listed. It was fine.

Do you all realize you're cruising...

NEXT MONTH???!!!

wow...time sure does fly, doesn't it?
:sunny:

Hi Laura,

Would having a walkie-talkie for your son work? We brought them the first time we cruised- they were fine-except the 1st day there were a ton of people on the same channel.

Got the kids clothes about ready for the cruise- haven't thought much about my hubby or myself yet. Except found a bathing suit for me on clearance!!!! Love to find bargains.

Wish we'd know about GC soon! Still trying to plan excursions- regarless it will be a blast.

The best thing we packed on the last cruise was an over-the- door shoe organizer- for sunblock, sunglasses- lotions, extra bathroom stuff, key to the world cards, etc... We seemed to be less cluttered that way.

I guess I will do the banana boat with DD8- already getting nervous- but I'm sure it will be a blast.

Sarah:wave2: (see ya soon)

Laura, we gave charging privlidges to our DDs the last two years and the were responsible. I told them that was to buy drinks and use it to load the gameroom card. I let them shop with it as long as they asked us first before signing. Now, about the attire..........Pirate night? I didn't even pay attention.......as far as formal, I bring 1 suit coat. I don't remember too many on our other 3 sailings wearing tuxes. As far as tropical, my DDs always like to shop at the first port to get their "tropical" wear.

No, Melody, THANK YOU! The Thanksgiving Cruise website has been terrific. Poor Teresa had a heck of a time trying to get a gift basket to you on your on/off/on/off cruise! But it sounds like she did great with a Hersheys basket ! That sounds like chocolate heaven!

And thanks to Teresa(Silver7) from the rest of us Turkeys for "organizing" your basket.

This will be the best Magic cruise!

RE: CLOTHES FOR THE CRUISE- Most of my clothes are already tropical! But I keep going back and forth about renting a tux onboard, or just packing some nice clothes.

Okay…I am having some trouble figuring out the order for our nights on the cruise. Can anyone help me with this? I know we will have the following nights…

Formal
Semi-Formal
Pirate Dinner (formerly the Mexicali night)
Cap’n’s Gala
The Best of…
Around the World

But, when do these happen? According to my Passporters Guide Semi-Formal is suppose to be on the third night and the Formal is suppose to be on the sixth night. In addition, the book says that Palo Brunch is on the second, third, and sixth days of the cruise and that High Tea is on the third and sixth days. I’ve seen other posts here to say that formal night is on typically on the first sea day. I am so utterly confused now. I honestly thought I had it figured out.

tbert5...
I had thought about taking the walkie-talkies, but was concerned about outside interference. I will probably pack them anyway and still have firm rules about checking in and out of the lab.

Lampskies and the rest who said a thumbs up on the charging priveleges...
I will probably okay the charging with strict guidelines.

silver7,
Thanks for the birthday wishes! It was a nice birthday! We saw Ladder 49...don't go without a box of tissues.

Thanks you guys! I hope someone has a clue with the night schedules. I suppose I should go to that one site that prints recent navigators and get an idea there.

Laura ºoº

Okay, I’m taking a roll call for our cruise. There are many names that pop up here at the DIS, but are not on the website for our cruise. I’m trying to figure out how many of us there are and how many staterooms we are in. I’d appreciate it if you’d respond to the PM I sent to the screen names here that I’ve seen post on the cruise meet thread.

And blast it all...it looks like I’m back to shopping for a dress to wear on formal night. I just returned from the seamstress and the neckline of my great buy will not work when altered….too large and too square…the shape would be lost. Oh, well! It’s a good thing my sister wanted the dress if it didn’t work out for alterations. Oh, well…a princess needs no excuse to shop, but it always helps.

Hope to hear from everyone about who is still with us for the cruise.

Laura ºoº

I would like to add. . . it is almost time to get our docs!!!!! Lets see who does the doc dance first:cool1: :jumping1: :thewave: :cheer2:

Mel Your welcome for the chocolates. I'm glad you and EB love it. Is there any left ;) ENJOY!!!! Thanks for continuing with the website even though you aren't cruising with us!!
Thanks Teresa for taking care of getting it sent to Mel!

Laura Belated Happy Birthday :bday: :cake: I hope you had a nice one! I have been starting to think seriously about what to pack for dinners on the cruise and just mentioned to DD the other day that we need to go through her closet and make sure she has enough dresses and "nice clothes" that fit. I just need to figure out for sure for myself what dresses/skirts/pants/capris I am taking. For DH we take 1 suit and and dress shirts, and some nicer polo shirts. There is NO way I would get him in a tux but he looks very nice in his suit so that is OK. For pirate night we had originally been thinking it was going to be tropical so DD and I have tropical dress and skirt and we will stick with that unless that is the night DH and I go to Palo then we will wear those a different night, maybe when we dine in Parrot Cay.
As far as which night we have which dinner this is a chart I made from checking posted Navigators and from our Western cruise we took in Jan. 2003:

Sat. Depart Port Canaveral Rotation Dining Variety Show
Sun. Castaway Cay 8:15-3 Rotation Dining Mouseketeer
Mon. Sea Day Formal Dinner Golden Mickeys
Tues. ?Gr. Cayman 7-4:30? Around World Hercules
Wed. Cozumel 10:30-11:00 Pirates Dinner Movie
Thur. Thanksgiving at sea!! Semi Formal Disney Dreams
Fri. Castaway Cay 9-5 Best Of Menu Variety Show

I hope this helps. I'm not sure this is exactly right but it should be very close. I have read that because we have the special Thanksgiving menu, instead of the Captain's Gala, we will have lobster for lunch on Castaway Cay on Fri. I hope that is right! Usually Palo brunch and tea are offered on sea days.

Before our last cruise we didn't let DD (she was 8 at the time) have charging priviledges and we still haven't made a definite decision on that for this cruise either. We did let her sign herself in and out of the lab but she had to communicate with us where she was going to be and she knew if she didn't follow the rules that priviledge would be taken away from her. Now that she is 10 and this is our third cruise on the Magic we are fine with her signing herself in and out but she will still need to keep us informed and follow rules. Last time she left lots of messages on the voice mail on the cabin phone and this time I am also planning on taking a notebook or some paper along so we can leave notes for each other in the cabin. We might try walkie talkies this time too.

tbert5 I agree the over-the-door shoe holder is a great thing for holding "little things" and helping to keep the cabin organized!!

YIKES today I am the one that posted a book.
I can't believe that we are at only 45 days to go. I can't wait especially being it was 30 degrees here this morning. Bring on the warm caribbean breezes :sunny:

Cheryl :sunny: :sunny: :sunny:

The lobster at CC is usually only at the adult beach......and is if there is any left from the Thursday dinner. Any word on if it will be at the regular buffett.......I started a thread looking for previous Thanksgiving Western cruisers, maybe we can get some answers there!!!!
Going to get my underwater cameras at Walmart today.......lokks like they are on sale......we usually bring 8 for the DDs to share on excursions.........

Laura--

2 rooms for us! Thanks for doing this!

Lampskies--thanks for the heads up on the waterproof cameras. I will pick some of those up tomorrow.

Only 6 more weeks:hyper: :earseek: :Pinkbounc :bounce: ::yes:: :goodvibes :

The last couple years I just get the cheep fuji waterproof, usually about 4 bucks a piece when they go on sale. They are great for shore excursions and for DDs walking around the ship. You don't have to worry about losing or ruining your good cameras.....remember if you are flying......KEEP THEM IN YOUR CARRY-ON!!!!! At both the airport and at port. The luggage x-ray machines may ruin the film!!!
