Hello, I'm planning our first trip and I cannot seem to find alot of info on Maelstrom. This looks like a fun experience, but I am wondering if it would be too much for my five year old son. He is a little timid of wild or scary rides, PoC is probably pushing it with him, we plan on sticking to FantasyLand alot with him. He is very interested in the Jungle Ride (we watched the trip planning video). Where would Maelstrom fit in on a scale of thrill rides?

Thanks for any help on this - Kate

No more adventurous than the jungle cruise.

The "viking" in the tunnel and the backwards "drop" may startle him if he scares easily but the rest is very tame.

~HTH~

Its also very loud in a stormy sort of way, so if he doesnt like thunder and lightning, it may bother him... the ride itself is tame, and if you dont want to surprise him, (I see tigger up there told) you can stand outside the Norway and watch that happen... to give him an idea of what to expect before it happens

anyway, my DD 7 hates storms, and we made her ride this ride, she was none to happy with us, but after it was over, she did enjoy the movie on Norway life (she's big into geography, history, etc ) and in the end thought it was worth it!!

Its nothing like Splash Mountain...

Here's a linnk to info about Maelstrom on the DIS pages

One good reference for how kids might like attractions is a book called WDW For Kids, By Kids. Even if your child is too young to read it, there are descriptions of attractions in kid's own words and there is a "Scare Factor" for each ride. If you don't want to buy it, you should be able to find it in your library.

he should be fine, although he could find the short film after the ride a bit boring. you do have the option of by-passing this by walking straight through the theatre before the film starts.

...for the info, I think we will try the ride, it sounds like most of the 10 minutes is tame enough to offset the storm. I'm also going to check my library for that book, I think it could be helpful for our trip.
