What is Maelstrom? I just got done surfing on Disney's site and it appeared to me like Maelstom was an intense water ride with a backwards drop?? Is this true? Everytime we've been to Epcot in the past we've always avoided the countries but maybe we need to take a trip to Norway!! 1. What is Maelstrom? 2. Is World Showcase worth it? Thanks

World Showcase is DEFINITELY worth it! I love all the different foods, and cast members, and goods from around the world. I could spend HOURS here and never tire of it!

Maelstrom is not at all intense. It's a short boat ride meant to give you some insight into Norway's history, culture, and geography. You do go downhill backwards, as well as frontwards as well. Think of the drop in Pirates of the Caribbean. No biggie. The ride itself if cute.

It's really lame. In a good way, we always enjoy riding it, it's not, by far, some thrill ride. VERY lame and relaxing I think.

World Showcase is always worth a trip!!!!!! Its my fave part of WDW =)

The ride is nothing big, but it's too scary for little ones. You do "slide" backwards quickly for a while and they make you think you will go down the waterfall backwards....then you go frontwards down a small hill. My oldest son loves it!

Thanks!! It seems as though we'll have to hit World Showcase this time!!

I agree, you have to tour the countries. I have to have an ale at the pub in England - say ello a lot and do stupid Monty Python stuff until my wife yells STOP IT! (Great fun).

The Maelstrom is just a short water flume(sp?). It does go backwards before the drop (it seems that you are going to go out a 2nd story window backwards in a wooden Viking boat). It was a little intense about half way down the slide because our 2yo daughter freaked (didn't know it was a flume ride at the time), but it was pretty tame.

The above posters described Maelstrom pretty well. It's far from intense. I just wanted to add that you should take in the World Showcase next time you get the chance. But don't rush through, take your time and enjoy the details. It's my favorite part of WDW.

Maelstrom is the BEST way to get cool in a HOT, HOT summer!! Plus, the guys who work at Norway aren't too bad on the eyes, either!!!:o

The world showcase is my FAVORITE part of WDW!! Okay, now I REALLY want to be there!!!!

Maelstrom is an ok attraction. We've been on it a number of times, but we now skip the post ride movie. Would it kill them to update that and the other WS films?

Maelstrom is a really cute ride! I love seeing all the trolls inside :) Don't worry too much about the drop at the end ... I thought it was less intense than PotC.

Don't skip the World Showcase ... It's a great chance to learn about other countries and to sample their foods :p

I'll ride Maelstrom again to see the girls who work there! :p

it is VERY SHORT! Just when you think the ride is getting underway it is over. What there is of it is cute though.

But the World Showcase is DEFFIENTLY worth the time.

ITA ::yes:: ! World Showcase is one of my FAV things to experience in WDW. Couldn't go on aWDW trip w/o visiting it!

:wave2:

I've always loved Malestrom, although it is short. We always seem to get off when the doors are closed to the movie and have to wait to get out, they should have another exit. We've seen the movie, so we skip it.

In all the times I've been to WDW, I don't think I've ever ridden this. Can't wait to try it out this year.:D
