What is this Maelstrom ride in Norway? Sorry- only did Epcot once about 10 years ago, and my son just refuses to go back. Didn't know there were rides back there in the Land. :confused3

Maelstrom is a great ride, one that we make sure to get on at least once every trip to EPCOT. It is basically a boat ride through Norway, fact and fiction. We like it so much we've even stayed for the optional film at the end.

Speaking of EPCOT World Showcase rides, the other we like is the Gran Fiesta Tour in Mexico. It doesn't have the same kind of thrill features that Maelstrom does, but it still fun nonetheless. Plus, there is hardly ever a line for it.

it is boat ride - I like it
it is a Viking ship - more of a thrill than PotC but not much more
love the Troll

the ride in Mexico reminds me more of IASW but with big TV screens

I wish the other spots had rides that show case their lands

It's just a little boat ride in Norway. It was never all that popular on the DIS, but seems to be getting a lot of buzz lately.

I've always liked it a lot, though. One of my favorites.

~You are not alone! We have yet to ride Maelstrom or Gran Fiesta Tour. It's at the top of my priority list for our next trip. I showed DD a youtube video of the troll when she was younger and she didn't like it. This past summer she wouldn't try the Haunted Mansion either. Now, she wants to try everything, so we'll see how it goes. I'm looking forward to it, too. Have fun!:goodvibes

My boys compared it to a little POTC with Trolls. They want to go back on it again in October.

When I was there about a week ago, the FP line was under some construction and closed. The lines for Maelstrom were unusually long.

Maelstrom has thrill features? lol

What about telling the kids they will get $5 a country and if for some reason they cant find anything in lets say Germany it gives them $10 in Japan or whatever..

That will make it fun and they will want to explore.. Thats what we are doing with DSS11
Even if its a piece of candy or whatever he will enjoy the looking that way.

Their are a whole lot of toys and stuff in Japan, Pokemon, Hello Kitty, Bakugan(sp?) Monchee Chee(sp?) and a whole lot more

Or you can say they can get a drink or piece of candy or snack in each country..

I went on Maelstrom my first visit to the world when I was 7. IT quickly became one of my and my sister's (age 9) favorite ride. To this day, it is one ride I must ride on each trip. In fact, as odd as it might sound, it is my favorite ride at Epcot, now.

We like how the boat goes in reverse kinda fast like. We didn't like waiting in queue...it was hot and stuffy in there (October).

The day I have to bribe my children to go through the World Showcase is the last day they get to come with me!

Agreed! Can't imagine skipping a park because DD refused to go to it. I'm paying for the vacation, 99% of the vacation is centered around her, and the last 1% constitutes what I want to do. Thankfully, DD loves Epcot, both FW and WS!

In response to OP, Maelstrom is a fun little boat ride in Norway and probably one of my favorite attractions The World has to offer. It's a nice way to grab a bit of cultural education while also enjoying an attraction. I always wind up on the boat with the person who thinks that it's actually going to go over the edge of the waterfall and plop down in the middle of Norway. :lmao:

My kids all loved it! We rode with a couple of cast members from Norway so they provided good commentary .

No no no! You're not saying it right! "Yooooou are not dee vurrrrrrst to pass dis vaaaay...nor shall yoooou bee the laaaaaasssssst!"

At least, that's how we say it. :)

Seriously, the World Showcase has this ride, and the one in Mexico. That's it. So, tourists who have been brainwashed into thinking they're missing out if they are not on a ride-ANY RIDE!!!-line up like crazy for this mild, pleasant ride. It's not much. But, when you've dragged your kid from Canada, to the UK, to France, Morocco...and they're whining, "where's the rides?? I want to go on a RIDE!!", you take what you can get.

Of course, there's great rides in Future World. I'm talking about the World Showcase. And I LOVE Maelstrom.
