I ran into AC Moore yesterday to grab a xyron refill and as I am wandering around the scrap department (as you always have to) I notice Pazzles on clearance. It is always $700 and it was $350. How could I pass that up? Apparently they are discontinuing carrying it. I have wanted that thing for months and ironically was looking at it online yesterday at work for my Christmas list. I got one of the last 2 they had. I was so excited and then while driving home reality hit. I don't have the $400 I spent.

When I got home my dh was in his office on the phone (he is a Realtor). At dinner he was talking about how bad things are in his business and how a house he has listed just got an offer for 100 grand less then the asking price and how Christmas might be tight if things don't improve with the stock market. All the while I am thinking that I just blew $400 that is sitting in my trunk. When i told him I bought it he was fine with it (although did mention he was going to get it for me for Christmas), but I feel terribly guilty. We just went through $5,000 in September for the wedding trip and then I just spent this. I also neglected to mention that I am also spending $400 on a personal trainer next week. I have never felt guilty spending money, even when I cant really afford something, but this whole marriage thing has me thinking that I am putting "us" into debt and that makes me feel horrible! How do you deal with it?

Keep the receipts, just in case. ;)

No, seriously, communication is the key thing here. As long as you are both discussing the purchases, there should never be a problem. I mean all purchases, big and small [cause those small ones can add up]. Yes, you may both have to take something back after the fact. But as long as both parties are willing to make the necessary sacrifices [if they come up], money shouldn't be an issue.

Do you have a household budget? Do you pull all your monies together or keep them seperate and have one for the shared bills? Are you natural savers or spenders or one of each?

I don't need to know the answers, but you two do. Those are things that you need to talk about if you haven't already. It'll make it so much easier to work that out now before any hardships strike.

 I would have gotten the deal too.
