Hi all,

I made an offer on SSR...its for an April UY, 200 points. 400 points are currently available. 200 banked from 2013, which I know need to be used by 4/1/15. And then all 200 2014 points are available, then 200 will come again on 4/1/15. The deal was made at $73 a point with seller paying all closings and 2014 dues.

I want to make sure this is working for me. We normally would go May/June, Sept or November. I know with April UY the 8 month mark would be November. We would be using the 200 2013 points this year before they expire.

Where I'm getting confused is the 2014 points. We will be going again next year, we go every year so that's not an issue. But if I'm looking at this correctly banking has to be done by November on an April UY? If so I know 2014 points are valid from 4/1/14-3/31/15. We would not be going during that time frame, since I'm going to use 2013 for this trip in September. So WHEN would the 2014 points need to be banked by....this November as in November 2014 5 months from now?

If so then when are they good for at that point because like I said, I will be going again next year, just not before 3/31/15. I thought April UY would still be okay for us since our travel times May/June or Sept/Nov fell within that 8 month time frame. There were no good contracts for at least 200 with another UY month. Plus I liked all the 2013 banked points that came along with it.

I'm confusing myself at this point and just want to make sure I don't make a mistake.

Thanks for any and all help and suggestions.

Jackie

For an April UY 2014 points are valid for stays from Apr 1, 2014 to Mar 31, 2015. You can bank the points into your 2015 UY by Nov 30, 2014 and then the 2014 points will be valid for stays from April 1, 2015 thru Mar 31, 2016 and will expire Mar 31, 2016 if not used by that time.

Congrats on your purchase and enjoy!

For DVC, throw out your usual calendar. With an April UY, "New Year's Day for your contract is April 1."

2014 points need to be banked by Nov 30, 2014 (for your specific UY) if you aren't going to use them by March 31, 2015. Those points then can be used between April 1 of 2015 and March 31 of 2016.

Just repeat to yourself, several times: "with an April UY, April 1st is New Year's Day, as far as my points are concerned. And my current year points have to be banked four months before my contract's New Years, if I'm not planning on using them before then."

Then, read the "understanding use year" sticky a couple times through. It isn't that bad, just takes a bit of time to get used to the concept.

You do not have to wait for the purchase to bank the points. You can ask the current owner to bank the points, if you are sure that is what you want.

All existing Reservations are cancelled when a contract is sold, but banked and borrowed points do not change status.
