I have read the recent posts about the Poly and I am scared to stay there now. This will be our first trip to WDW and I want it to be good. I don't want to have problems. I made the reservation for Poly because it is near the monorail. Is there any other hotels near the monorail? I don't want to hear noisy noisy people at all hours of the night. I got concierge at the poly, I just need opinions on what I should do? I have 3 children, 2 year old, 7 year old,9 year old. This being our first trip I want it to be good.

Any opinions will be great

Thanks Leslie

This could happen anywhere. We stayed at GF one time and had a noisy family next to us, the mother kept screaming at the kids, although thankfully it wasn't late at night. I think staying in concierge, they might be more likely to take action if something happened since they have a dedicated staff.

This can happen at any hotel know matter where you stay. I have stayed here a few times and have recommended it to everyone I know. I am not a travel agent but I have decided to make sure anyone I know who is going to Disney. I make sure that I share everything I know. To make sure their trip is as magical as mine have been. I have no problem recommending the Poly. I think bad things can happen anywhere. Hopefully the Poly manager helps this family. I feel bad that a trip can be ruined. I just hope Disney cares enough to make it right.Don't worry It will be fine. Brenda

Please remember that problems can happen anywhere. Also remember that it is human nature to become occupied with the problems. Sometimes lately it has been a feeding frenzy around here talking about all the rotten stuff. If you allow just the problems to influence your decision, you would never leave home because every resort at WDW has been hammered on the boards at one time or another.

Pick a resort that you wish to visit and go. Don't let the negativity rob you of a chance for the time of your life.

We just got back from 4 nights at the Poly, and we didn't have any problems. In fact it was a wonderful trip - room was wonderful, staff was wonderful, etc. We never heard a peep from the rooms around us, and I know there were at least people staying in the rooms across the hall. I loved the Poly and can't wait to go back.
As others have said, you can have bad neighbours in any resort, we had some awful people beside us once at Port Orleans French Quarter, for example. Hopefully the Poly staff can help the people who had the recent bad trip. But try not to let other people's experiences turn you off. It's human nature to talk (or post in this case) more about the bad stuff than the good. I agree with dpic, every resort Disney has (and offsite places for that matter) have been raked over the coals here. You won't be able to find one that everyone likes.
It's more likely that you'll have a great time wherever you go than it is that you'll be disappointed. I hope you have a great trip. :)

Hi Leslie,
With a 2 year old, you will be thankful you are staying at the Poly. Imo, no other resort can compare as far as transportation options. I do not believe there is another resort within walking distance to the TTC, which has the direct monorail to Epcot. With two ways to get to MK (boat launch and monorail), you can't go wrong.

The noise can happen at any resort. I have had noisy neighbors two out of the four times I stayed at Poly. You can find noisy neighbors anywhere at any resort. Some resorts are handling it better than others.

While some posts may seem to be negative reports about certain resorts, the posters are just relaying their experiences, which are upsetting for them after spending all that money on a vacation and having high hopes for their WDW trip. I think we all romanticize about how wonderful it's going to be. Then reality hits - long lines, heat, and unfortunately worse things like getting sick, having your resort stay ruined by other things (like neighbors keeping you up at all hours), or *fill in your reality here*.

When you have to deal with something particularly irritating such as noise or problems with your room, when it goes on and on with no relief, your tolerance level goes down with it.

I'm glad we are able to share all our experiences on this board, the good and the bad. I always find it interesting how some of the problems are solved (or not solved). Here's hoping you get lucky as far as neighbors go, because the Poly is a wonderful resort for families with small children. :)

I intend to stay at the Poly in September 2005. I read all of the trip reports about the Poly that I can find and I appreciate all comments--both positive and negative---that past guests make. I selected the Poly in part because the overwhelming number of comments made by previous guests are positive. Even the poster who suffered as a result of inconsiderate neighbors admitted that the resort was beautiful.

I am looking forward to staying at the Poly in September. As for obnoxious children, isn't Florida the state where police have recently used tasers on children??

PLEASE stick with the Poly - like everyone else has said you can have that same experience (with noisy kids) anywhere on property. I think you will love the Poly - we have been many times, most recently last month, and have never had a negative experience. It is our absolute favorite resort and you just can't beat the monorail with little ones.

Aloha!!

I, too, have been weary about the Poly reports. We are taking our first trip to DW in April and I've researched EVERYTHING since I want it to be perfect. I decided on the Poly because of the many great reports but mostly because of the convenience. We have 3 girls ages 7,5 and 2 and I truly believe this is the best resort for those ages (for us, anyways). The recent report of the noisy neighbors made me feel bad for the OP, but it just reminds me that these things can happen. Do I think the management should've done something more? Yes, but who knows what will happen when we're there, so you know what? I'm going to buy earplugs for me (my husband and kids can sleep through a lot, but I can't even have a TV on) and I'm going to pack my sound machine. I hope I don't have to use them, but at least I'll be prepared. I think that's all you can do. Like others have said, this can happen at any resort. I think you should keep your ressies, especially in concierge.

Just because someone had a bad experience does not mean you will!! So many times I've listened to great reviews of resorts and then had a bad time and vice versa. You never know what can happen, and things can happen anywhere! So many people here have nothing but great things to say about the POLY. While I would prefer the GF, the POLY has a strong following and the transportation options are one of the best. I do believe the CR(contemporary resort)has the same options for transportation, meaning monorail, ferry, and walkway. The GF has no walkway to the TTC. We loved the GF and had a great experience there with our DD. Most people said the resort was not family friendly and stuffy and snobbish. We found it to be the complete opposite!
Just keep a positive outlook, and if you run into any snags, report them to a manager.

If you are so bothered by the reports from others, stop reading them and just go and have a good time!!! Or, change resorts, but that won't gaurantee you will be 100% happy. To answer your question the GF, CR, and the POLY are on the monorail loop. The WL is in the same area but, no momorail, just a ferry to the MK and buses everywhere else. We just stayed here and even though it wasn't our style, we gave it a chance and had the best time ever!!! We loved it, despite a few problems with our room.

My second Poly stay (1st since 1988) will be next June. As others have already said, I've seen a ton of posts about the Poly, both good experiences and bad. I'd say the same about every resort on property.

Regarding the noise from adjacent rooms, it seems like several people have commented on this at many Disney resorts. Are the walls really that thin? If so, that just seems like complete carelessness on Disney's part during construction. I've stayed at the same hotel in Branson probably 15 times over the last 7-8 years. It costs 1/3 of what the Poly costs, is generally full when we're there, judging by the pool many young children around, and I've never heard a peep out of the neighbors on any visit.

Thank you for all your opinions. I will keep the ressie for Poly. I appreciate all your advice. I really do. I am taking ear plugs to :D . I am like you mermaidwannabe I picked the Poly because of my 3 girls around the same age as yours. I wanted the convienence. Everyone said to do Poly especially for the 2 year old.
The Poly Concierge did call me and she was really nice. I couldn't believe I got called this soon. I forgot her name. I am bad with names. She told me about the Poly, the services. She did say that people don't understand it can be noisy with the fireworks and near the elevator. I requested a room where you can see the castle. She said those rooms have a fantastic view but you can hear alot of stuff. The fireworks at 10 may wake up my 2 year old and I said yeah I guess I can bring my radio since she falls asleep with one now. So she was telling me about the noise but I just brushed it off.
She said they are going to be remodeling the rooms at the Poly starting in Feburary. She said concierge level rooms will be first she said. She said they will be done by the time I get down there in July.
She even called the Titanic exhibit we want to take my 9 year old and we did a conference call. So I was very suprised she called me. I had a good feeling when I got the call because I felt like they were really giving me attention.

Thank you again for all your help

Leslie

I have never had a bad expereince at any Disney resort, from the Poly to Pop Century.

There's a chance of problem anywhere, but a much greater chance of no problems at all...

we are going back to wdw in June. My kids are dying to go back to the poly concierge. I want to try GF just once.

we are in a battle here. they absolutely love the poly. very quiet, very serene, lots and lots of fun.

stop worrying.

it is wonderful

and no mildew smell at all.
at least for me-garden view concierge

Hi. I'm glad that you are keeping your ressies!! We were at the Poly in Nov. and noise was not a problem at all(I probably couldn't hear over my 3 screaming kids anyway.....just kidding!!!) You do hear the fireworks but it's not intrusive and if your 2 yo is anything like my 3 yo-(s)he will be soooooooo wiped out from the parks, they can sleep through anything!!!! The kids will LOVE the pool-it was a huge hit with my 6 and 9 yos. Have fun!!

If you stick around on the DIS boards long enough you will hear EVERY resort - from value to deluxe - get trashed in many, many different ways! :)

We have stayed at the Polynesian concierge several times and have NEVER had any problems. Not to make light of a recent poster, BUT, as a guest you also have to advocate for yourself. Yes, it could be said that it is Disney's responsiblity to make sure every guest has a pleasant stay, but there is no way our family would have gone through several nights of disruptive neighbors - we would have made sure we got moved or the problem got solved - after the first night. Just my opinion there...

Please go and have a WONDERFUL time! Your kids will love the pool and the whole atmosphere.

Jill

I get emailed reports and read reports on different forums and a VERY VERY SMALL percentage of them are ever bad. I just read 3 from people that returned in the last few days and they were GREAT reports. It was all of their first time there and they said they will not go anywhere else. I hear that often. The Polynesian still has the most repeat guests (as of 2004) so that would not be the case if they were alwasy as bad as the post that you have read.

You made the decision to go to the Polynesian for a reason. Don't change your mind becasue of someone elses experience or opinion.

There is no where in the world you can stay and guarantee you won't have a bad experience.

Aloha

Steve

funny about your 3 kids drowning out other people's kids. My DH said the same thing about our 3 when I started worrying after reading the post about noisy Poly problems. (Trust me, we are on them when they make a lot of noise) I'll just bring earplugs for me since I'm the light sleeper in the bunch. I have had noisy neighbors at POR & CSR & so figure if they are there, we will be placed next to them. Wish I knew which longhouse to request to best avoid this problem.
