My DH and I thought it was very cute. The penguins were great. Favorite part is when they arrive at their original destination

The only word/phrase that I wasn't keen with them using was "shut-up". I'm 28 and my mom still frowns at me if I use that term in front of her, so I guess I'm a bit sensitive to it. Otherwise it was cute movie. I would agree the scenes of the little animals getting gobbled up could be scary to little kids.

Can someone tell me if there are any dark scenes in this movie? Does anyone get killed, any blood, knives, fire etc. The reason I'm asking is that we have not been able to take our DD to any movie because of the loudness and darkness issues. I think she might be getting past this but I'm concerned because every Disney movie has some element of violence in it that really effects my very sensitive child. I'd like to try going to a movie with her but need one that's very light and fun. Thanks for your help.

I thought it was so much tamer than the Disney/Pixar movies. My 4 year old is afraid to watch Beauty and the Beast, Lion King, Finding Nemo, The Incredibles, Monsters Inc, Shrek, and Toy Story 2. He actually likes Toy Story 1, which makes me worry that he will turn into Sid someday. (He isn't a total chicken. He went on Tower of Terror right after his 4th birthday and performs life-threatening feats on a daily basis, much to my chagrin).

Anyway, he had no problem with Madagascar. There is one scene at the end that gets a little intense. The foosa (are those hyenas?) are trying to attack the animals, but it isn't dark and they are quickly saved. There is a scene where a statue they make catches fire. It's extremely brief, like 3 seconds. If your child would get upset about animals trying to eat other animals, you might have something to worry about. They don't show any blood, and it's done in the old-fashioned cartoon way where nobody is in any pain. It didn't faze my kids at all.

Yes, there is. I hate to rain on the love fest, but it scared the wee wee out of my niece who is 4 and will be 5 in December. I did not care for this movie AT ALL and I think it will set you back if you take her.

Thanks so much, this is exactly the info I needed. I think I'll pass on going for now. Luckily, she isn't phased by other kids doing things she's not yet ready to do. As a treat one day at her school they showed the kids Aladdin. I had to go pick her up because she was so upset by some of the scenes in the movie. That's the kind of sensitivity I'm dealing with.

I'm sorry your niece got upset. I completely understand how hard it is to see a child deal with that.

Anybody see Madagascar movie? I just came back from the drive inn. It was really funny. My dd are 7 & 13 and we all liked it a lot.

I loved the movie! I'm DD 13 ^ and i thought It was great. VERY FUNNY My sis (DD 7)^thought it was funny too. The only part that she noticed as "Bad" was when the top part of the P fell off the sign saying HELP. The P basicly turned into L .............. We all agreed that it would be worth buying on DVD once it comes out.

We just saw it last night. It's a really cute movie. My dd5 wasn't scared at all...she liked the movie.

Kids really liked it. DS 4 was not scared a t all and he usually is at some of the kid movies.

I just thought it was OK - not much of a story. I was surprised some of you picked up on some of the stuff- like the starfish & crab comment. I never even noticed.

Shrek and the Toy Stories I thought were much better. This is one I probably would not buy.

I have to agree!

DS who will be 9 in a couple of weeks loved the movie and he had a lot of laughs throughout. I do agree that there is some adult-based humor, but most of it was over DS's head (he didn't even know what a rectal thermometer was).

That is too funny! I never heard of that, but I have a feeling I may have to add it to my vocab. A cute way of getting around saying the Real Thing (which I sadly say way too much)

Guess I'm in the minority here. DS (10) and I thought it was just okay. He laughed a few times and I gave a small "snort" here and there. I was a little bored.

To me, it was a bit like Shrek meets The Lion King. They seemed to be trying too hard to get "Alex" to be like "Simba" and "Marty" was trying really hard to be "Donkey." I really like Chris Rock doing stand-up comedy, but Eddie Murphy just blows him away on this one. He just wasn't that funny. Probably the neurotic giraffe gave me the most laughs.

OMG, I turned to my niece who was with me and said, "Do you know who that is?! It's Ross from Friends!!" Sure enough, I watched the credits and it IS David Schwimmer!(sp?)

We took DS 5 who has been petrified of the movies since we tried his first movie at 2 1/2(spirit). He did fine this time sitting on his dads' lap. I don't think it scared him at all. The movie was cute but to be honest we all were almost alseep at the very end.

DD, 6, and I saw it Friday. We both liked it very much- I actually laughed out loud several times. The only things I could see causing a PG rating were the cartoonish violence (the zoo animals see the food chain in action- a baby duck is eaten, etc.- but absolutely no blood), and the use of the word "sucks"- it is only said once, and to great comedic effect.

We felt the same way. I went with my girls 15 & 19 and we all left saying that was OK. While it was enjoyable I'm glad we went to the first movie of the day and didn't pay full price. What really bothered my girls the most were the animals aren't the ones you find at the Central PArk Zoo. Not that it matttered to the movie but it bothered them.

We used to have a running joke at my office that the only things the Central Park Zoo has on display are a cat and a stick. Not exactly your Bronx Zoo level animals...
