Hey, DisUnc! I need your brilliant tv analytical skills! Just had a thought while vacuuming today...when all my best thoughts come...

remember when we were all trying to figure out Peggy's sister's obvious pregnancy when she was visiting Peggy in the "hospital?" Do you think she could have been faking a pregnancy so the neighbors would accept the new baby as hers?

Obviously this is not earth shattering, but I do love all the layers on this show that have me thinking about an episode weeks later. What do you think?

I'm not DisUnc, but can I offer an opinion anyway?

I don't think Anita was faking. Remember that Peggy didn't even know she was pregnant until she had the baby. I don't know exactly how long Peggy was in the hospital, but IIRC she was gone from work for 2 months. And also IIRC Anita was pretty big in the scene when she visited Peggy.

Since there's no way she could have been faking the pregnancy for more than 2 months at the longest, how could she have explained away being that big that quick. I think Anita really was pregnant.

As always, YMMV.

I never thought of this, BUT it makes sense since her Dh is bedridden!:rolleyes1 with some unknown ailment!

One must remeber the TIME this stor has taken place, 1960! Also The writers & Director make a point of showing just what reality was like back then. This is intergrated into the show very well. A example of this is when Betty was using the commode once, they showed all the layers of clothes, etc involved in this 'simple task"

The baby was Born on Nov 23 1960(day before Thankdgiving) I remeber this cause (thats my birthday minus a day) and I was born in Brooklyn in the same neighborhood as where peggys goes to chirch (she was one parish over). Peggy could be my MOM!:scared1: :lmao: :lmao: :lmao:
When the new season started it was February of 1962. So the timing issue is a bit murky.

However 'back in the day' this situation was HIGHLY volatile & kept very very verrrrry secret. It wasnt unusual at all, for 'cover ups" to take place. AND NOBODY even dared to question any of this. All very taboo.

I had a friend whose parents were on the old side, they had 2 older DD's and then him 16 years later. He was a 'change of life baby.' UNTIL he grew up. His sister was really his Mom. Here is the kick. His Real Mom did marry his real father years later and they had 2 sons.....who both were IDENTICAL to my friend. And really nobody ever even questioned this, at least openly!

Also the sister is heavy to begin with so it is quite possible that she did use a pillow to fake pregnancy.

Anita's husband hurt his back -- at work, presumably. We don't know when it happened; it could easily have been after the baby was born. (Actually, at one point in the first episode that Anita appeared in I remember that either Anita or Mom mentioned the husband "bringing the car around", so he was well enough to drive at that point.)

I don't think that Anita's child is Peggy's baby -- I think he's a red herring put there by Weiner especially to make us wonder that very thing. It creates suspense.

BTW, did anyone notice the previews last night containing some kind of serious discussion with Pete? The kitten may be let out the bag next week.

BUT both sisters were pregnant, and there is only one baby!

What happened to the other baby?

I think it was a red herring also.

At one point the sister tells her something along the lines of "The state of New york doesn' t think so" -meaning
that she could not keep her baby-severe depression-maybe?

He's probably where most illegitimate babies were in 1962 -- an orphanage, or with adoptive parents.

If Peggy tells Pete that the baby exists, I can see an arc of Pete trying to adopt the child with Trudy -- not that he would admit it is his own child.
That was also something that was done a bit in the old days; fathers with babies on the side who "privately arranged" to adopt them with their wives none the wiser. "Gosh, Honey -- he's perfect. He even looks kind of like me."

That was my thinking. Plus, that they made Peggy say goodnight to the little guy when she was over there.

OTOH, I suppose it could have been adopted and in that case, Peggy's sister is just beyond mean for making the pastor think the kid is Peggy's.

Oooh... a Mad Men thread!!! Can this be the official discussion thread?? I couldn't find one before....

I ♥ this show! I finally got all caught up.

I think Anita's baby died. Just a hunch.

Pete is a scumbag.

Check out Elisabeth Moss at the Emmy's:

The Associated Press reports that Jon Hamm, best-known as conflicted ad man Don Draper, will host Saturday Night Live show on October 25. Rounding out the evening will be musical guest Coldplay, back for a third time.

Jon Hamm was in a recent interview with Details magazine (I think). There were some pretty gorgeous pictures with him in the Coupe De Ville from the show. No boxers pics, but still very nice.

As for the baby, this has been discussed at length at television without pity website.
