I believe that Don is actually a bit younger than that -- I think that is "Donald Draper's" age, but not his. He was a Korean War draftee, so presuming he was 18 when he was drafted and served there, even if he was drafted in 1950 (the first year of the war) he would only be about 32 in 1964. I think that Dick Whitman's real age is somewhere between 31-33, probably just about 5 years younger than the real Don Draper would be. (Remember that the real Don was an engineer in the army; an officer and a college graduate.) Betty said that she was 28 in a conversation with Glenn during the first season, that would make her 32 in 1964. (She thinks that Don is a few years her senior, but my take is that they are actually just about the same age.)
My take on Henry is that he's probably rather controlling by nature, though he's probably also the type that masks it well under a cloak of benevolent paternalism. I suspect that finding out that princess Betty has feet of clay (AND a drinking problem) has been a bit of a shock to him. I'm sure that he thought she was without any major character flaws and a lot more malleable than she actually is.
It's my understanding that we are about to be seeing a LOT more of Kieran Shipka; all sources are hinting that she's about to become the tween from hell. She knows all about her mother's flaws, and I'm sure that now that her adored Daddy has been "driven out", she is going to make it her mission to punch her mother's buttons with great regularity in an effort to be sent to go live with Daddy. 10 to 1 she'll get her wish about getting out, but not going to Manhattan with Daddy -- my guess is that she ends up in boarding school.
Anyway, whether I guess wrong or right, I'm counting the minutes until it comes on. I don't think I've every liked another television show this much; not even "The West Wing."
