Macy's Stores......

I've found this to be very true. If it's an upscale mall or shopping district, you'll get an upscale Macy's.

In my area, I much prefer Nordstroms.

I prefer Macy's to Nordstrom for price value and lack of sales people working on commission. I feel like when I ask a Macy's sales person for help, they help me because they want to. At Nordstrom, it's all about making the sale. Our Nordstrom is clean and nice, but the pushy salespeople have made them lose me as a customer.

Maybe if the store you're thinking about visiting is Macy's Herald Square in NYC. Otherwise, no. Macy's is far from the grand department store it used to be.

Can any Macy's shoppers give me any info on the Captain Mickey offer they had? Is he still around?

I was at Macy's getting DS jeans last night and they had these on the endcap at the register. Big sign that said $14.99. They were cute, and talked but I couldn't hear what he said. (I had a chatty sales associate). He was holding a very plastic toy looking compass. They had a lot of them here. PM me if you need one.

Tinker, thanks for the offer. I will just head on over to my local Macy's and see what I can find.

Merry Christmas to you and yours!!

they are not the store they used to be. the ones around here are awful now. not worth the drive in my book.
And you can't keep the hanger. Just sayin'. ;) (Every time I hear the word "Macy's" now, that's what comes to mind...you can't keep the hanger...courtesy of a previous DIS thread.)

I am so jealous of some of you and the great malls and stores you live near. I'm seriously starting to think that the Mall of America could be the next Disney. :rotfl:I think its time to plan a shopping vacation. :goodvibes :thumbsup2 And I really don't think I'm kidding.

That probaby is the case.

The Dillards one hour from me-in a grand shopping center is way more fabulous than the one in my small city

It could be that the Macy's that are being described as like JC Penney's" (which was going to be my comparison) are because they took over an older store in the mall. That is what happened here. Our Macy's is small and drab and even thought it has some upscale items, not worth a destination visit. Now if it were the Macy's in NYC, or even Atlanta...maybe worth it if there were some other attraction to the area. I wouldn't do it, JMO.

I LOVE Macy's - I wouldn't compare them at all to Sear's or JC Penny.

Since moving from NJ I don't have a Macy's near me so every time I go up to NJ I always stop in Macy's.

Macy's brand Style & Co. are the only jeans that I have found that fit me perfectly! Plus I always get great deals at Macy's.

BAHAHAHA I loved that thread!

I love Macy's too. My grandma (gone now) used to take me to the Macy's Herald Square for special shopping trips so I'm sentimental about them. I grew up near the Macy's Roosevelt Field on Long Island, and that store is beautiful as well. I lived in Kentucky for awhile, and the Macy's at Oxmoor Mall is really nice too. I've had good experiences with Macy's all over the country!

I love my Macy's and no comparison to JCpenney around here. 4 floors and great merchandise. Only two other Macy's that are better (near me), Herald Square, NYC and Roosevelt Field.

I think you should make the trip! :)

I feel the same way as Jessica with the one same stores here at our local mall. Macy's much nicer than Penney and Sears - three or four floors also.

Hi ya'll. I'm the OP. I went to the malls website and the store in question sounds like a large store with 2 floors. The mall is at least larger than anything we have locally so...... I think DD and I will give it a try. :thumbsup2 I really appreciate all of the responses!! :goodvibes

While I don't think it's fair to compare Macy's to Sears, I spend more money per year in Sears than I'd ever spend in Macy's. Certainly not on the clothing at Sears, but it's never been clothing that has made me shop there (though I have bought some articles of clothing there). Now, I have never been to the store in NY (do love the parade and someone brought that up in another thread today), so it may be an exception, but I just am not crazy about Macy on any level. I don't like "their" brand of clothing either and I hate that they carry less other brands because of it.

Before it was Macy's it had been Kaufmann's Dept. Store. My favorite store btw. They carried all types of brand names (and popular brand names too). Since Macy's come in, we just go to other stores to try and find the brands Kaufmann's use to carry and I've literally have had to turn to the net for some brand names. I really like Boscov's MUCH better than Macy's and while they don't carry all the brands that Kaufmann's used to, you can get some really good brands there that even Kaufmann's never carried.

JC Penney is the better of the two stores, IMO (macy's/penney's). If you wanna talk Neiman Marcus, well, I think they're truly the winner, but, opinions are like you know what.

Well, even if you don't find anything at Macy's, I'm sure you'll find tons in the mall. I don't know many woman (if I know any) that could not find something to purchase in any mall.

Macy's is nice, but not that much different from other department stores. Though I will say that they usually have really good sales and coupons!

I love love love Macys. And I would never compare it to Sears or Pennys. I can always find really cute designer clothes on sale for a really good price. Last week I got a $78 shirt there for $11. We have a Macy's in my mall (Short Hills, NJ) that is very clean, nice and easy to shop in. It's very well organized. I also like the Macys in NYC on 7th ave. It's very big, 9 floors I think, and has the most amazing selection of clothes. I really can't say enough good things about Macy's. However, if you have a Lord and Taylor near you, I do tend to like that store better. But it is very comparable to Macys.

I love Macy's. Is anything really what it used to be in dept. stores?! As far as the look of the store it really does vary from place to place. Of course that shouldn't be. They should all be held to the same standards. Prices and sales are pretty much the same though. :thumbsup2
