Macy's.. go jump off a cliff. FREE SHIPPING *******

I reallyreally hate it when an ad comes in that says something like that, it'll be:

FREE SHIPPING ON ANY ORDER
over $100

Drives me right up the wall, and seems almost kinda sneaky/underhanded... I mean, they're not FORCING you to buy anything, but if you go and find something you like there, then find out you DO have to pay shipping or spend more buying OTHER things... :headache:

Thats exactly what it was like except it said 25% off AND Free Shipping. IT wasn't until you scroll down and read the very fine print that the free ship part applies to orders over $99. Why can't they just put it right up there next to it, especially if they really think they are giving us some sort of great deal. :confused3

And....:confused3:confused3:confused3

Almost every online retailer has minimums to spend for free shipping, anywhere between $50-100 is pretty common.
this is why i like amazon too, only $25 min to get free shipping. and most retailers don't gouge on shipping like macy's does.
I posted about this very thing a couple weeks ago. their shipping charges are absurd.

Exactly. Even on Cyber Monday, when everyone had REAL free shipping, they still had a minimum on their's.

I can understand a minimum for heavy items, but for apparel or home goods? It's fine that they have a minimum, but they need to stop acting like they're giving us something really good. It's a joke.

OfficeMax had a great Cyber Monday sale. There was a $50 minimum on their free shipping, but since they mostly sell computer equipment and office furniture, it was understandable. I bought a chair that is $209 right now if you go look at it, for $119. Awesome. I made the $50 minimum, and it was here less than 24 hours.

I've bought from Macy's before. They are definitely not here the next day.

It's not a "big deal"... it's not a deal at all, really. Spend a $100 to save $6! WOOHOO.
and if they only charged reasonable shipping charges that would be fine, but they don't you can't get anything delivered from them for $6, they over charge on shipping to an absurd point.
i don't believe i said it was a "big deal". i actually said it wasn't a deal at all. :)

I agree, its no deal.

****** if you spend a hundred dollars.

Give me a break.

Hey, that's not hard to do at Macy's. 2 items and you are at 100 bucks easy. If you're a Macys and Bloomingdale shopper like I am, than it's a good deal.

I don't get what's upsetting about this:confused3. If you spend more than $100 you get free shipping - great. If you don't want to purchase that much then - no free shipping. If you don't have a $100 or you don't like Macy's then don't shop there. Easy.

exactly, I don't see the big deal. :confused3

:confused3 I don't see what the big deal is- spend a hundred get free shipping...costs them money to ship, why should they give every person that spends 20.00 free shipping? Not hard to drop 100.00 in macys!

I LOVE shopping at Von Maur for gifts. They have free shipping and gift wrapping all of the time. You only pay sales tax if the item is being shipped to a state where they have a store (currently they're all midwest states) and their credit card is INTEREST FREE!

:cheer2:

I can usually find just about anything I want on Amazon - and always spend a minimum of $25 - so I never have to pay for shipping..

I have several other sites where I purchase specific items that offer free shipping with NO minimum via codes..

The most I'm willing to spend to get free shipping is $50 - and that's usually office product places where the order adds up quickly: paper; card stock; Parker pen refills; ink for my printer; etc..

I really couldn't imagine myself spending $100 at Macy's - or any place else - for free shipping.. Especially when other places have a much lower minimum or totally FREE shipping "without" a minimum..

Guess we all have our little quirks..;)

It's not a quirk, C.Ann, it bothers you me the OP and a few others... all the rest use the :confused3 smilie! :lmao:

I wish I understood the world and I could :confused3 everybody's opinion about EVERYTHING. :thumbsup2

It's all about the advertising to me. Joe Average Customer does not search for that fine print, and retailers know it. I work in retail, and this happens with our coupons constantly. There will be a coupon in the paper that says $10 OFF in huge letters, taking up half the paper. Then in teeny tiny print all the way at the bottom, masked by an entire paragraph of reading material, are the words "$10 off a purchase of $60 or more." Then we, the employees, are accused of deception. It's a headache. :headache: That's why advertisement like this is a joke to me.

:confused3 Me too. ;)

I get all sorts of email offers. I read them, even the small print. Macy's in not alone with requiring a minimum of $100 for free shipping...Coldwater Creek, American Girl are 2 to spring to mind right away. I just delete those emails & move on (unless there is something that I wanted that costs that much). Kohl's will usually give you free shipping after $75--but you have to spend $75 AFTER the discounts, so when you have a 30% off coupon, you have to put a lot of stuff in your cart. Free shipping isn't always a great deal--sometimes I prefer a percentage off & paying for shipping.

I just get bombarded with ads in my email from them and FREE SHIPPING is always at the forefront of the ad. I know before I look that it's bogus. I just wish they didn't think I was stupid. Of course.. I know that there are places that require minimums on shipping. I don't even mind paying for shipping sometimes. That's beside the point. Just don't act like you're doing us a favor.

This is the exact heading that showed up in my email before I clicked on it:
Friends & Family: EXTRA 25% OFF + FREE SHIPPING - email exclusive!

Garnet Hill on Cyber Monday sent this big ad with.. FREE STOCKING STUFFER WITH PURCHASE - Today Only!
Then you open up the email and it says you have to spend $100.

I've caught on, and now I don't even open these ads. I just hate that they're full of it.
