I just took these. We've got heavy cloud cover and it's not currently raining... a rare event. Wanted to see what that type of lighting would do.

Here's my spider.. (I moved him from the pics avg tourists might not take thread)

I found this "guy" at the 16th hole at Fantasia Gardens yesterday.:faint: "He" was very big - I would say 2-3 inches.... :eek:I find him very SCARY looking, b:scared1:ut I also find the center of the web - the zipper effect to be interesting! I guess the "little" guy is a baby? DD is not afraid of much, but very phobic of spiders... I am a bit too - but this was just too good of a photo op to miss!

Nice shot makinorlando :thumbsup2,what a beautiful looking spider.

Thank you! Every time I see a dragonfly I think of your photos... there are a "bazillion" of them around right now - but they never seem to land. We were in the pool yesterday watching them fly over, they were almost as big as birds (well not really - but there were some quite large ones, flying in group!!!)

I identified "my" spider... I will now probably have nightmares for looking at them on line.... isnt' "Google" a wonderful thing... I typed Black, Yellow, FL Spider and found it right away!

It's a Black & Yellow Argiope. They websites I have seen say the body length is about 3/4 - 1 1/8" - so I guess with the legs, my guesstimate might not be too far off. The little spider in the background is probably the male... they are much smaller, and on one site it mentioned that he builds the zig zag part of the web. They are not poisonous (isn't being SCARY enough!!!) They say the zig zag might be to keep birds, etc from flying through it or to attract bugs... both sound good to me!

So there's your lesson in arachnids this evening.
Yesterday Sand cranes.... today spiders!

I took this while playing around with my Canon S2 IS. I have no idea what function I used. :confused3
