macro lenses

boBquincy have explained it correctly, actually.

and yes, you are correct.

Bug life sized image on your sensor = macro
Monkey's butt at 1/3 life size on your sensor = close up

just an addition, though, actual monkey's butt on your sensor: BIG PROBLEM.

assumed he explained it right, just wondered if anyone saw any reason to do it

any butt on sensor = desperate need for sensor cleaning ewwwwww

First I'd just like to say that I love coming to this board. I'm clueless when I start reading about settings/filters/shutter speeds. Heck, I just want to take photos. :rotfl:

So post your favorite non-Disney macro or extreme close ups. It can be any subject that you've caught up close and personal. :teeth:

One I just took of a caladium plant in the rain.

I did something right? Woohoo! :)

Don't most macro lenses only go up to 1/2 life size (without the add-on to go to 1:1)?

And I bet some culture somewhere thinks monkey butt close-up photos are the highest form of art. I must find that culture... ;)

I'm fairly new to the photography board (and I only learned how to upload and post pix in the past couple of months). I'm getting so much inspiration from seeing all your pictures! dcg, your pic of the bee on that flower is awesome!

Here's my contribution to the macro/close up category, taken just this afternoon:

85mm 1.8 + 12mm extension tube. after i took the shots, the bloody thing bit me and broke the skin. so much for taking a shot without a model release :rotfl:

I'm a total amateur so this probably isn't macro- maybe more extreme closeup, I don't know. This is one of my favorites that I've taken recently- the flowers were constantly blowing in the wind so I caught this one just at the right time!

You guys are so awesome, I'm in total awe... :thumbsup2
Doesn't rank with any of yours, but here's one I took this morning.
