I think, it's very difficult for the "average or normal" person to understand. I'm not justifying her actions, but it's more than just a "habitual or recreational user".I'm also bothered by the length of this "affair". Having never been a big-time drug user but marginally aware of the effects....ok, she woke up the first time in the middle of a drug haze, but what about the next day when she came down?? It didn't occur to her then this was unacceptable? For the next 10 years?
Can't help but come back to the fact she was busted a year ago. If, she is doing this in the guise of "helping others", it's wayyy too soon for a 49 y.o. habitual user.
She spent her whole life in a sick, twisted, dysfunctional lifestyle. You don't just "come down" or "sober up" and think or behave "normally". As a PP posted, our brains don't develop until we are around 24 years old. Addicts do not progress emotionally and do not mature or think rationally. There is a direct link to promiscuity, sexual abuse and addiction.
Some folks feel MP was wrong to come out. I see a lot of dialouge going on that wouldn't have taken place (if she hadn't spoke out). Maybe, this will bring more awareness and understanding...to addiction, sexual abuse and mental illness.
