Macbooks---overpriced

Am I the only one who thinks that macbooks are overpriced and overrated???

So many people I go to school with talk about how they wish they could afford a macbook and think it's so great etc. and I have a macbook that my grandparents bought me and I absolutely hate it and think it is a waste of the $1000+ that was spent on it.

I much prefer my dads HP (which I am on right now) and my moms dell laptop.

But I also do not have nor do I want an iphone (i like my blackberry). I don't have an ipod and I don't get the hype of the ipad
....i guess i just don't like Apple products

Am I really the only one???

Expensive? Yes. Overrated? No.

I'm the opposite of you. I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE my MacBook Pro. I will NEVER go back to a Dell. They were horrible and their customer service was even worse. Anyone I know who has switched to Apple has never turned back. My husband has either an IBM or Dell for his work laptop but hates it. At home we're all Mac. They are easy to use and the customer service is great.

My husband and I love our iPhones.

It's all personal preference I guess.

I agree with cinmell. I LOVE my MacBook Pro, which I got a few months ago. Yes, it was pricey, but I'd saved up for it and felt it was well worth it. I'm a big fan of Mac computers. I've always had Macs at home and PCs at work, and I vastly prefer the Macs. I don't think the MacBook is overrated at all. I'm so glad I have mine.

Love my Macs. All of them. Hubby owns an audio/video production company so we have a few at the office plus our laptops.

The IPhone, eh, take it our leave it. It was innovative, but there are lots out there now that do the same things. However, the ical links up with my laptops, so it works.

I WILL NOT get an ipad. We were so excited to see them, but just like the iphone and itouch, they do not play flash. Over 75% of websites have flash, and Steve Jobs and Adobe have some long running feud so the small devices don't use them.

I do have 2 pc's, one netbook and one to trade stocks.

We have 2 Macbooks and we love, love, love them! At first we had one, and I used an HP that I constantly had problems with. We are now all Mac, Macbooks, dh & ds have iphones, ipods, itouch, imac for the house, and a 3g ipad on the way.
We have never had a virus or a screen freeze, things that were very common with our pre-mac computers.

I've read a lot of comparisons between Macs and PC laptops...

the cost of a comparably equipped Mac and PC are pretty much the same.

Can I have your MacBook? I adore my iMac and my DH hoards his MacBook and when I need the laptop I have to suffer using his piece of crap HP that has never worked correctly even though we've wiped and restored the thing 2x. You can HAVE the HP too.

I guess it's all personal preference. I love my MacBook and iMac. We still have 2 PCs in the house, too, and day in, day out, the Macs outperform the PCs. Love my iPod, don't have an iPhone but will consider one if they come to Verizon and won't be buying an iPad any time soon.

Worth every cent.

Pay attention to your friends with macbooks. Compare how many times you have to replace your pc based laptop with the number of times they have to replace their mac.

Nothing at all substitutes for quality and performance. You can choose to have less quality and poorer performance, but don't kid yourself into thinkning it's cost effective or a "better deal."

I am probably the only one that will agree with you. I know people love their Macs but I just don't get it.

I finally broke down and bought one. I am one that has never had a problem with my PC's. My son is into making movies and everyone convinced me that the graphics on the Mac are so much better. While I will admit that there are some nice features in terms of graphics, I am not remotely impressed with the Mac itself. I honestly do not see what the hoopla is.

I ordered my daughter a brand new PC laptop around the same time I ordered my Macbook. I got her the absolute best laptop on the market. I custom ordered it with the biggest and best of everything. It was a fraction of the cost of the Mac and there has not been one single problem with it. My Mac has had a few issues already and I am just not impressed. Honestly, I do not get it. For me, I will never order another Mac again.

On another note, my DD had a Zune for years. No problems and she loved it. This past Christmas, we bought her an itouch. Don't get me wrong, she loves it but it has had quite a few issues. We debated between the touch and the Zune HD. I wish we would have bought the new Zune instead.

I promise to leave all the Apple products out there for everyone else to buy because I can assure you that I won't be buying any of their products again.

I am with the OP...I do not get Mac love. Seems to me you are buying a name.

I have an HP desktop and an HP laptop that I love. Never had problems with either of them and they cost a fraction of what a Mac would have cost with more features.

However if Verizon can get the iPhone on their network I would seriously consider it.

I'm A+ certified, MCSE certified, an Apple Certified Technical Coordinator 10.6an Apple Certified System Administrator 10.6, and an Apple Certified Macintosh Technician plus a few other certifications not related to this in particular.

I will tell you right now, I hate working on macs. In the grand scheme of things both PC's and Macs do the same thing, difference is, PC parts are interchangable and more accessable, macs require mac parts. for years Mac OS (x) was edging above Windows, but now days they are pretty much on par with each other. difference being you can run many more programs on a PC than mac oh you could add software to run windows programs, but you're paying for that too. Also one misconception about macs are is that they don't get viruses like PC's. WRONG! In fact the viruses that attack Macs are harder to remove than viruses that attack PC's.

So when buying, the only real issue is brand preference. Just like cars some people like toyoda some people like ford. There really is no difference (these days) between the two except accessability and repair.

I don't like Apple as a company. I don't care for a lot of the ways they do business. I reluctantly bought my Mac Book because my school system runs on Macs and it would allow me to access the system from home, which come report card time is huge.

I still don't care for Apple as a company in many regards, but I do love my Mac Book. The problems I had with my PC have vanished, and when liquid got into my keyboard, they fixed it even though technically that isn't covered under Apple Care. I adore Aperture which is Apples photo organization and editing software and am still amazed every now and then at what my Mac does - such as printing at any printer without having to install drivers. It really is a well designed computer.

I've always been a PC guy. Only ever used macs in some school classes.
So I am not one of those people who buy Mac because it's "cool" or "different".
I've built my own PC's for the past 10 years.
I've owned about 6 laptops (personal or work). Dell, HP, Compaq, IBM.
Last year we bought a Macbook Pro so I could start developing my own iPhone apps.

It is, without a doubt, the nicest laptop I've ever owned. It's hard to describe what it is I like about it. It's just all the little things. Gorgeous screen, nicest touchpad ever, great keyboard, and even minor things like the magnetic power connector that keeps it from falling out when you move around. I am completely in love with this laptop.

I will probably stick to PC's for my desktops, just because I like to play games. But when I go shopping for a laptop in the future, I will definitely be looking at Macs first.

Apple customer service has been top notch. My lap top had seen better days - been dropped a few times, needed a new keyboard - I lived with it. But when there was a warranty issue I was able to schedule online a time for them to call me. (!!!!) They called and agreed it needed to be sent in. They sent me a box, I shipped it. The day after I remembered something else I needed to ask them to check - I called and the laptop was already done! No matter, they took it off the shipping shelf to check what I wanted. When I got it back they had fixed all the warranty issues as well as new outer shell and new keyboard!


And this is just one story about how awesome their customer service is.

I have had one repair where my computer has needed to be sent in. It happened to be a Dell. It was a seamless process. I have dealt with Dell on the phone for a few other issues and had some great reps and some that stunk. However, my experiences with Apple so far have been horrible. My DD's itouch was a nightmare in the beginning and every rep I talked to was from India. I was looking at buying a used Mac at one point and I was trying to find out if I could add on Apple care. Every rep had a different answer for me. The best ones were the ones from India that couldn't answer my question but continually read to me from their script. It had nothing to do with the reason I was calling but they just kept on reading. The insinuation that Dell relies on India and Apple doesn't is just flat out wrong.

We've had absolutely horrible CS with HP and Dell. Too many unresolved problems and difficulties just in getting proper service. No problems with Apple. My husband and son adore the Mac we have. I tend to stick with the pc just because I can get on it while they take turns with the Mac.

Our next laptop will be a Mac....and probably every one after that also.

I switched to a Mac last year after using PC's for years (Vista pushed me over the edge). Macs are nice, but are far from perfect. It depends on what the end user needs.

I've enjoyed Apple's computers since college.

Though I do miss My Pictures from the PC I had...I just don't really like iPhoto all that much.

I have no interest in an iphone, ipad, itouch, etc.

Anyone interested in mp3 players should check out anythingbutipod.com...with the players, it really does seem that it's a name you're buying...most other players are better than what apple puts out. It seems. From DH's research.

But do love the macbook (especially b/c it was a "free with 12 month lease" deal at a place we were already going to move into!).
