Mac vs. PC result

A while ago I asked about Mac vs. PC.

I knew he really wanted a Mac. He kept talking about it. Wondered if he should wait until the next version came out. I was having a nice soak in the tub. In the meantime.... He ordered the Macbook!!

The last straw was when our old Sony Vaio would not load the new version of iTunes needed for his new iTouch. (ACK! New new podcasts until we get the new computer!). The old computer did not keep a good Internet connection. With the new one, I won't be kicked out of chat every ten minutes.

How long will it be until we say, gee we should have gotten a Mac a long time ago?

I love MAC OSX, but i dont like overpaying for mid level hardware. I own macs and deal with the hefty price tag for ease of use.

I worked as a graphic designer for 11 years, now I'm a teacher. I have always used Mac's, but did buy a PC several years ago because my husband was a PC person. We had so many issues with the darn PC and went back to a Mac. I LOVE MY MACS!!

I bought a Mac G4 iBook 7 years ago and I never had any issues with it until last week. The hard drive went in it. Anyway, I needed a new computer right away so off to the Apple Store in Tyson's Corner we went! The guy at the genius bar told me it was considered vintage, but if I had the hard drive replaced it would be as good as new!

I came home with a brand new iMac and love it. My brother, a Mac guy, took my laptop and put a new hard drive in it for me yesterday (only cost 90 dollars for a 250 GB) and uploaded all the new software so it's as good as new! Now I have both! My husband has even converted over to Mac, especially when he discovered Garage Band, and the fact that he can stream HD movies from Netflix through the Mac onto our 62 inch big screen in the family room!

Did you know you can set your iTunes library up on a Mac to be controlled by your iPhone like a remote? You can even grant your guests (who have iPhones) access to your library and they can make requests remotely?


Macs also aren't prone to the viruses that PC's get.
I discovered my new Mac has Time Machine on it, so no more worrying about manually backing up my work. All I have to do is plug in an external drive large enough to back up the entire system and enable Time Machine to do an auto save every hour. This time if the hard drive crashes, I can just use Time Machine to restore the system without a loss of work, settings or software.

I have a Mac but still love my PC. I had one virus in the very early days of computing. I have never had a problem on my PC that I couldn't fix.

I would love to have a new Mac but at this point I can't justify the cost of buying all new software for it. I am a software junkie.

We have multiple computers at home (2 PC desktops, 1 server, 1 Mac, 2 PC laptops) at home and I use (graphic designer) both a PC (to communicate w/ the rest of the company) and a Mac (design work) at work.

Still have to say (typing this on my work Mac) that I prefer the PC. Easier to fix something when it goes wrong and less calls to the help desk for simple fixes (software freezing, etc).

I've been using both for close to 20 years.. no contest if I purchase a new computer it will always be a PC.

iTunes is a terrible program and on the PC it is simply atrocious. iTunes 10 was supposed to be great and I was hoping for a new rewrite but alas that was not the case. Apple basically added ping which is a Zune Social clone and now iTunes is totally incompatible with Firefly and other media servers, very disappointing.

Not necessarily. I have a mac (for about 18 months now) and I am in the minority I know, but if I could sell it I would go back to PC in a heartbeat. I love graphics and photography but I just haven't gotten comfortable with it.

There's a lot of misinformation to the whole Mac/PC Debate.

1. People think they are safe from viruses with a mac. That's just not true at all. It has been proven at every Hacker convention that Macs are every bit as easy to get into as a PC. The difference is there are so few Mac users compared to PC users that they just havent dedicated the resources to bug a Mac. every person you talk into buying a Mac is one more mac closer to your first virus. I have had a PC for 13 years and never had virus protection or a firewall and have never had a virus

2. A Mac always works - Why do they have a genius bar? If this was the truth Apple would not have service centers and customer support. Generally People with Macs run less software and definitely run less custom, small end software. In the land of PC repair it's generally not Windows that messed up but it's something you put on Windows that messed up.

3. Macs are better for graphics. While this used to be very true it's just not the case anymore.



My point is that Macs are not better than PCs but neither are PCs better than Macs for that matter. Anything you can do with your Mac I can do with PC.

Macs are a much simpler machine. Suited best for people that really want to use the software provided by Apple and a few major Software players. Really good for people that are integrated with iphones and ipads and other future istuff.

PCs are more customizable. Suited for people that is always looking for the newest software, works in an industry that uses custom software (almost always PC specific). Or has the knowledge or desire to fix it your self. And haven't bought in the the ilife and buy various brands of appliances(Andriod, Sandisk, ect.)

The wife and I just got new Macbooks about a month ago and maybe we are still in the "honeymoon" phase with the macs, but we love them! I fought the switch for years, but finally gave in. Now I'm asking myself why I didn't switch years ago.
