I'm fairly new to Mac's, and I have 4 cd's full of raw photos that I'd like to upload into iPhoto. I'm having problems with iPhoto quitting on me when I try to upload or view the pictures. Is there a special way of doing this?

Also, how do I turn a RAW photo into a jpeg so that I can post it or sent it via email? Thanks!

I have a MacBook and I have not had a problem with importing RAW photos into iPhoto. But I have only imported them from the camera directly through iPhoto. In the bottom right corner, you will see "RAW" in a little box showing you when you have a raw photo loaded.

As far as getting RAW photos from a CD into iPhoto... Can you just drag and drop the photos into the iPhoto window from the CD? I know you said it is crashing on you but maybe that is because it is just too much data for iPhoto or your computer's processor to handle at once.

Maybe try dropping a single RAW file into iPhoto. Alternatively, you could go to File and select "import to library" and try importing that way.

As for converting RAW files to JPEGS, I usually just the software that came with my camera or photoshop.

Make sure you have all the updates downloaded from Apple, I recall there was an update that dealt with RAW photos in iphoto. You could also try moving the files off the CD and onto the hard drive and try importing them that way.

iphoto doesn't do the handling of the raw photos, Mac OSX does. this means that all osx apps, like iphoto, can use raw files. it also means that other components, such as preview, safari and finder the operating system natively supports most major camera's raw formats. they just released 10.4.10 a little while ago which added raw support for Canon 1dmk3 and Leica M8, for example.

you can export images from iphoto, or merely embed them in emails, etc.
