I am sitting here on my lazy boy typing on my laptop and Mabel insists on sitting on my lap!!! She is such a nut dog....just thought I would share....

AND...if we are sitting at the kitchen table...playing cards, talking etc....we HAVE to pull up a chair for her to sit on with us or she won't leave us alone!!...She does sit nicely just "listening" to the conversation too :teeth:

Aww...I want to see a picture!

Our first Weim used to like to try and sit on my lap, but our current one doesn't.

They're such a sweet breed, they don't know they're NOT humans!

Aww! I've been meaning to tell you everytime I see you post that I just adore your Mabel!! What a cutie! :goodvibes

Our Princess is Lab/Weim mix, and she has to be in the middle of everything too. She especially feels she must help me drive by standing with her front feet on the console and watching out the window, and do not say car, pizza or cheeseburger in her presence or she goes nuts!

This was her as a puppy -

I'll have to have the kids take a pic when they are ever home...LOL...

They are big babies!! It doesn't help I treat her like one too... ;)

Thanks...although she can be quite vocal at times...well, most of the time!!! Sometimes she will even add a little "talking" in with her barking.... :teeth:

I have to hurry up and get in bed at night before she realizes what I am doing, so I can get on one side with my legs stretched out or she will take up the entire bottom of the bed.... she is such a bed hog, and a heavy sleeper..... add a Yorkie to the mix, and you have my nights. Good thing I don't have a DH! There would be no room!

OMG and the "talking" too...I've had people ask if someone else was talking a couple times when she has been having one of her conversations! This is no normal barking!!

I love seeing Mabel's pictures. She looks so sweet. They have incredibley expressive eyes!

I've often wondered what a Lab/Weim mix would look like, thanks for posting those photos of Princess. :)

Can you tell me a bit more about weims ? I have always wanted one since I was little ( when they were on Sesame Street :rotfl2: ) & my husband isnt "sold" on them yet, he wants another lab, I want a weim. Do they smell like a hound dog ? What I mean is do they have a hound smell like beagles have ?? Maybe he was just telling me that so I wouldnt want one :rotfl2: Also how big are they compared to labs ?

Any info would be greatly appreciated! I have been looking into the Great Lakes Weim rescue.

Also to Makinorlando, I love your dogs pic! I voted for it in some photo contest, I didnt even know it was a dis puppy

I don't know much about them "yet"....since Mabel is my first...I am sure Blondie can fill you in with alot of info.

I don't know about a hound smell...but Mabel doesn't have any kinda smell....other than a typical dog....my bullmastiff smelled no different ;)

One thing, I thought that it was just "trainable" to avoid is their "vocalness"....alot of sites said they like to hear themselves bark...and I really believe that...she is VERY VERY vocal!!! When I picked her up from the vets after spending the night (being spayed)....the people at the vets put it nicely...but they were tired of the constant barking...and weren't too sad to see her leave

They need to be by people 24/7 just about and will follow me everywhere I go in the house....even if she is sleeping in the same room...if I get up...she gets up and follows. I really don't think they like to be left alone. The longest I ever left her was for about 5 hours...but she was fine...VERY excited to see us again too.

She is extremely smart and really surprises me with the things she does. I can non-chalantly say something like "find your kong" or "go get your sucky" (her blanket...well, full size sleeping bag that she loves to "suck")...and she will find it....wherever it may be.....And with the kong, I will say "if you want peanut butter...put it on the counter"...and she does.....

I would think though, they would be considered a little bit more "hyper" than a lab...but then again, never had a lab. But think about it....I went from having Babe (a bullmastiff) to Mabel....that is the most opposite of demeanor of dogs as you could get practically....AND I truthfully am thinking about getting another Weim!!! BUT...not so sure about all that poop ;)

Let me know if you have any other questions...

Thanks Tiffan4k!

When is your DDs birthday? My DD turns 9 on Saturday. We are going to 1900 Park Fare on Sunday for "brunch" with a friend and her family!

OMG Lisa.. our dogs sound so much alike! Princess is so much more "attached" to me than the little Yorkie. I work at home, so they are not alone much during the week - and on weekends, I try to limit our time at the parks/activities to 8-9 hours. Some days I get tired of having my gray shadow go everywhere I go! She is usually sleeping next to me on the sofa (lay on the sofa???? I never get to do that anymore), if I do lay down she lets me know in no uncertain terms that I am in her way!

She always knew were her favorite toy or bone was to be found - you just had to say the word, and she was off!

As much as Princess barks.. the Yorkie is 20x worse! She has the Napolean complex, and tries to be Alpha dog!

Princess is a mix of both breeds, and I think she has qualities of both. She is WAY too smart, it is frightening. She is very loud and "talks" as well as barks. She is great as a watch dog - the bark alone will scare people away - nice since I am a single mom!!!! She has her "freaky" qualities.... which at times get on my nerves - as soon as DD starts to get ready for school Princess starts to get all anxious.... she loves the car too much. One evening I went to the garage for something, and she followed me out, I came back in and she did not, then I realized I had not seen her in a bit --- she was out sitting by the car - waiting - she had a long wait - since it was 9pm!!!! If there is pizza in the house, she will sit in front of the fridge waiting for it! She never forgets.. My mother brought her treats the first time she visited, and now when she comes - (every 4 or 5 months) Princess heads right to the suitcase...

I could not imagine life without her!!! She is a real member of the family!

We have a Yorkie too - she has her own story. The two of the together are quite a handful!

Thanks for answering my questions! She sounds a lot like our lab, but a lot more beautiful..lol :lmao:

What a cutie!!! Watch out...those chairs flip very easily with those "lap dogs" aboard!!!!

We have the same problem with Harrison. He thinks he is a lap dog too. No matter how much you tell him that he is not, he still insists on sitting on you. Crazy dog.

Let me know if you have any other questions...

They are very much people dogs, and Shiloh is my shadow, wherever I go, he goes. Sometimes it gets ridiculous, but I know he just thinks I'm his mother! Very often I'll have to tell him "stay here, I'm just getting a drink of water, you don't have to come too." Sometimes he'll listen, other time he tags along anyway.

They don't shed much, at least our two haven't. And we've never had a problem with ticks or fleas either. Probably due to their short fur.

They're so good with children. Our first Weim we had before our kids we born. We were a bit concerned how he'd react when we brought the new baby home, but he did fine and loved him as if he were his own!

They are a highly intelligent breed. I know everyone probably thinks this of their dog, but Weims really are a notch above the rest, IMHO. They are known for being able to get out of crates, gated yards, etc. They are called the "houdini dog" for a reason! Both of our Weims did not like being confined, and would scratch and tear his way out of someplace, or even trying to get into someplace.

Other than being a great family pet, they are very protective too, I guess like most dogs are of their families and homes. Nothing unusual there I suppose.

I always tell people that are pondering a Weim that if they are looking for a dog that will sit happily curled up in the corner with very little to no interraction from their owners, this is NOT the breed for you. They want and love to be included in everything and you'll feel their wrath if you don't!
