We are planning a trip from Western Massachusetts for the Christmas holiday 2004 at Disney world (1200 mi). Leaving on the 16th to arrive in Orlando on the 19th, leaving Disney on the 27th returning to MA sometime the following week. Our setup consists of a ¾ ton Ram Truck and a 30” trail-lite travel trailer. We also have a Hensley Hitch which has done a great job of eliminating sway.

My questions are as follows:

Am I crazy towing such a long distance in the winter?

If the weather is bad just take your time. In the long run, it's always a good time to go to FW.

Be safe and enjoy .

We're leaving on the 16th of December to drive our MH towing a vehicle. We've done this same trip several times and just take our time.

We came home 2 years ago in a snowstorm and found that the interstates were well paved.

Have a great time! Maybe we'll see you there!

Also remember once you get in the south, the road conditions aren't as much of a factor. As a Florida native, I can say our roads aren't much different in winter than any other time.

So icy roads won't be a problem the whole way.:D Besides what a fabulous Christmas present!!!!

16 Days til our next FW adventure:bounce: :Pinkbounc :bounce: :bounce:
Happy Camping

Washington DC traffic can be a bear anytime of the year. If you are coming that way don't do it near rush hours which are 6-9 am and from 4-7 pm. Interchange to I 95 south is still not complete and backed up often even when not rush hour. Also I have heard that you can not go through either of the tunnels in Baltimore. So you would have to go the beltway there too. How many times are you planning on stopping for the night? That may help you decide about major cities you will encounter. Have a safe trip.

Thanks for the replies.
As you can see we are getting closer to doing the “single digit dance”

Today my wife called her brother who lives in Orlando to tell him we were coming and invite him to meet us at FW.

His reply was we must be “nuts”!!

So here I go again having to convince my wife that I have allowed plenty of time to travel from MA to FL (3 days). The return trip starts on Monday the 27th and I don’t have to be to work until the Monday the 3rd. Plenty of time to stay put if the weather up north gets bad. And we have a great setup: TV--03 Dodge Ram 2500 (13,000 mi), TT—04 Trail-lite, Prodigy Break controller, & Hensley Arrow Hitch.

Any words of encouragement would be appreciated!

When we drive from NE CT we take the longer route 84-81-7?-26-95. We find the drive through VA and into the Carolinas much easier than fighting the traffic through Baltimore and especially DC (We have been stuck in a traffic jam at 3 am!!!). We have also taken 17 from 81 and come onto 95 just a little north of Richmond. However, there are times that the traffic south of DC is slow until past Richmond. If the weather is bad, then we consider the more coastal route. This more northern route adds about a 100 miles to the trip, but we find it much less stressful and make it to WDW in about 23 hours (from just south of Worcester).

Providence RI here, we have done it in the past not too bad , remember there is nothing quite like New England weather!!! it will get easier as you go south . have a safe trip!!

We are also traveling from MA to FW in April. We drove down last March and hit snow in CT/NY area, we basically took our time and things went okay. We drove down in a regular car and handled the snow thing pretty well. You should be fine considering you have a truck at least. We have about a 1200 mile drive as well from our town (Central Mass area) and don't have much trouble driving it in bad weather. The key is to take your time and just watch the other drivers. Have a great time.

Last year we travelled from East Tennessee to Orlando on 12/28. Traffic was the worst EVER. Lots of RVs and trailers, so we assumed a lot of snowbirds left after Christmas Day. It was just about solid in all lanes all the way down.
