M & S travel insurance

hi alison
my husband is disabled from birth i told the insurance and they said he was covered and writen is tablets down its with Lloyds bank platimen card

I guess, like anything, it depends on circumstances, and the disability, but could be worth a try for anyone trying to get cover :thumbsup2

We are using Go! Travel insurance, single trip policy. They weren't the absolute cheapest but I found they were the best value with what they covered and the excesses you may have to pay. Not sure what their extra charges are for disabled members of a party but it may be worth a look.

With any phone calls to Insurance company call centres also make sure you get it in writing that existing conditions/disabilities are covered.

Best way is to request the policy is endorsed to specifically show that the condition is noted and included.

Better still go to an Insurance broker to get them to ensure it is covered - then you have them and the Insurer to come back on if anything happens.

well I shopped around and I got responses from - they wouldn't insure him to loaded excess but............................. wait for it...........

ESURE insured the 4 of us inluding all DS's medical issues for £110.00

that's great Ali :thumbsup2

Our annual insurance re-newal letter came from M&S yesterday but I'm going to let it lapse this time as I can't see the point in having to pay out twice to insure DH separately again :sad1:

Might have to try ESURE ourselves ;)

Alison we had used ESURE for our 2005 trip then last year M & S were good (although to be fair to ESURE I hadn't re-tried them) but as you know couldn't quite understand why in the space of such a short time M & S decided to bump up the premium because of DS by such a big amount when there was no change in circumstances.

After phoning around and getting such a wide range of prices and NO's thought I would try ESURE . She gave me the quote , told her all abut DS and she said £110 . I then said what about the excess for DS and she said they was none just like previous. Now why there is such a gap in quotes and even if they will ensure you or not is beyond me and totally wrong but hey one company wouldn't even quote when I said he was in a wheelchair which is against the disability discrimination act but I didn't have the energy to argue the bit.

good luck when its your turn :thumbsup2

Glad ESURE came up trumps :thumbsup2

Be sure to get it all in writing though :sunny:
It's so rubbish that we have to jump through hoops before we can go on holiday but to go without insurance 'just in case' would be so stressful :confused3

Can't actually imagine when it might be 'our turn' at the moment, for a multitude of reasons, but have a great time, wherever you're planning :thumbsup2 :goodvibes

1 reason companies quote so differently

- M&S underwritten by AXA, very main line blue chip Insurer, can afford to be choosey about who/what they take on.

- ESure underwritten by St Andrews Insurance plc - :confused3 who ?? exactly !!

(not saying they wont be any good and probably have an ok credit rating etc)

I needed to make a claim, from M&S, for a visit to the docs for DD, and a dental visit for me on our Italian trip :sad2:

When I called M&S for the claim forms I was told that I needed to get doctors' letters for both claims (bearing in mind that these would be at the cost of a docs letter) even though my GP has never seen my teeth!

My GP, in turn would have to write to my dentist (as if he hadn't enough to do!) before the claim could go ahead! :sad2:

Luckily DD's docs claim was only £12 and my £100 dental claim was covered by my Westfield subscription so I 'left it hanging'!! :rolleyes1

I understand that M&S have changed their 'underwriters' over the last year.
When it was necessary to claim, in 2005, it was simple and straightforward - maybe too many people were getting what they were entitled to.................. :rolleyes1

It looks unlikely that we will be travelling anywhere in the foreseeable future but I will always be on the look out for recommended insurance companies :goodvibes

our sons wheelchair got badly damaged in 2005 and ESURE were a great help in getting compensation off the airline as it was their fault. M & S weren't AXA underwritten when we used them for our 2006 trip, havn't got a clue who were the underwriters. ESURE are part of the Halifax / BOS group and working for a large coach company I know that 99% of the underwriteres are not big companies, just the way the industry is so I won't panic.
