M&M World worth it?

We have 2 young children, ages 3 & 6, and are looking for something to do on our non park day while at WDW next week. I know they have that M&M World in the (I think) Florida Mall and was wondering if it's worth the trip? We're staying offsite and will have a car and just thought it might be fun to do something small. We really want to spend most of that day swimming at our resort before heading back to DTD for dinner, but was wondering what your thoughts on M&M World are. Thanks!

It's been a few years since I've been, but I don't think it is worth a special trip to the mall. It is basically a shop ... full of M&M products. There isn't anything to see or do other than buy M&Ms. The mall itself isn't very interesting either. Lots of empty storefronts.

No - like previous poster said, it's just a store.

They would probably have more fun at DTD at the Lego store and Goofy's. You could also do mini-put on or off-site. We took my DDs to an orange grove when they were little and they enjoyed that.

Its worth a visit if you are already planning on being at the Florida Mall, but it doesn't justify a special trip there. Just a big ol' themed retail shop. Bright and colourful and good for some photo ops, but that's it.

What's your budget and your timeline for the offsite attraction? A great activity for the afternoon could be an airboat ride (check out my December trip report for our review and pics of Wild Willy's), Gatorland (if you have 2-3 hours), or Showcase of Citrus (a one-hour tour through an orange grove via an open-air monster truck.....see pics and a write up in my August 2013 trip report). Links are in my signature for the reports. All very worthwhile, fairly low cost (Gatorland will be the most expensive, but Groupon has a half price offer currently running for Showcase of Citrus), and only take a couple of hours max. Much better choices than M & M World :thumbsup2 .

Exactly...

It's just a store and if the M&M character is walking around, you would think he is sad looking compared to the Disney characters.

I agree with the PP that DTD is much better. Your kids will enjoy ordering a custom-made snack at Goofy's Candy Co. and watching the CMS make it according to their wishes. Fun! We do this every trip and we are now all adults!:)

Thank you all for your replies. Gina, I have seen your trip report about the orange groves and thought that sounded kind of interesting. Didn't you say they have an orange slushie or something like that? That might be a good option. I think the kids are a bit young for the airboat ride and while my 6 year old is up for putt putt, my 3 year old doesn't have the patience for it. I'll check out the Groupon and put it down as a maybe. Thanks again!

Mmmmmmmmmmm........yes! The orange slushie  :

They also have a creamsicle version, where they blend it with vanilla soft serve. Jake and I are purists at heart, so we went with the normal slushie, but DH had the creamsicle one and it was divine as well.

We bought the Groupon (for $10) that gave us $20 worth of purchases from the gift shop, which paid for our slushies plus a nice selection of gift items to take home (honey, sauces, etc). I think they also gave us a card when the tour was over that would have given us the slushies at half price (but we didn't try combining offers when we had the Groupon ... we just assumed they wouldn't allow it). For an extra $1, you could get your slushie in a souvenir Showcase of Citrus plastic cup. The regular slushie was $3 (without the half-off discount) IIRC.

Showcase of Citrus has orange slushies??? We have been going twice a year for a while now and never saw those. Mmmm going to have to ask about those on our next trip.

You order them at the check-out counter :thumbsup2 . Honestly, they are DIVINE. We are planning to head back there on our August 2014 trip, just for the slushies......they were THAT good! (and 100% natural, too, for anyone who is counting calories or trying to make healthier choices)
