For our trip in September, I want to avoid renting a car. We're staying at Saratoga Springs and the Lynx route 50 to Sea World from Downtown Disney would be very convenient IF the Sea World stop is accessible. We stayed on the Lynx route on I-Drive between Westwood and Vineland last February. The buses were accessible but the stop across the street (Northbound) had no curb cuts, so we had to rent a car. Has anyone taken the 50 to Sea World with a wheelchair? I know the Disney stop is accessible, I just don't want to get to the Lynx stop at Sea World to discover we can't get TO Sea World. Any help would be appreciated! Also, has anyone had experience taking the Lynx (111 or 50) from Downtown Disney to the Crossroads Shopping area? Same questions - is it accessbile on the Crossroads end?

You would probably be best off contacting Lynx directly. Also, if you qualify for paratransit services in your own city/state then Lynx has a reciprocating agreement to provide paratransit for you in Orlando while on vacation. You'd need to speak with Lynx in this instance as well, as they will require you to fax over a copy of your paratransit card. Once you are set up as a temporary visitor, then you can prearrange door-to-door accessible transportation to SeaWorld and anywhere else you'd like to go.This kind of transportation though does take time, as they will drop off and pick up other patrons on the way and back. Still, I'd contact Lynx- if the stops you need aren't accessible, then paratransit would be the way to go.---Kathy and Skye

Thanks! We are aware of the reciprocity and will go that route if necessary. As you know, it pretty much squelches any dream of spontaneity on our vacations. I will contact Lynx to see what they say. I did not have much luck with that last time, however. They were insistent that the stops on I-Drive I mentioned were accessible. What they meant was the bus could engage the kneel/ramp at that stop. The stop itself, however, was just a concrete pad with no ramp onto or off of it. I am a much earlier riser than my SO, so I may just go on a bus reconnaissance trip to Crossroads. For Sea World, we may just drive.

I don't know the answer to this but...

I almost always visit Crossroads on my powerchair each trip to WDW.

There is a sidewalk all the way from Downtown Disney with kerb cutouts and pedestrian traffic lights at every junction. If you have a powerchair or scooter you don't need to use Lynx to get to crossroads. I would guess the distance DTD to Crossroads is about the same (possibly a little less) as once around World Showcase lagoon.

I wouldn't want to do it in a manual chair though.

I wonder if there is reciprocity with the UK? I suspect not - but it costs nothing to ask!

What do you mean by 'does take time'? My vacation time is premium time, not to be wasted waiting all day for paratransit transport. I am not averse to saving a dollar or two, but not at the expense of wasted vacation time.

I went to seaworld last year at xmas from SSR my wife would have had no trouble at the DTD stop but at the seaworld stop there was no curb and even had tree roots growing around the bus stop, PM me if you wish

This is just what I suspected. Thank you so much for confirming. As I said, calling Lynx about the accessibility of the regular routes just doesn't work. I have found a good weekend rental car ($30 for a premium to pick up at the Dolphin Thurs thru Sun) that should allow us plenty of room for the dismantled Hoveround in the trunk.

The paratransit system schedules you a "window" for your pick up time (in the Seattle area it is 30 minutes). You may then be on the bus/van for as long as 90 minutes. The waste is having to schedule 2 hours each way for an appointment. Any of the systems we have used operate in a similar fashion.
