Luxury goods on the dream now in Europe?

It’s been 3 years since I last been on a Disney cruise. I was surprised to find luxury goods such as higher end jewelry. Higher end purses (LV, Hermes, Prada) and higher end watches. Is that a new push to spend more at Disney or just in european iterinary?

Be aware that some of those high end items are actually "gently used". You may have to specifically ask if these are new as the signage isn't really specific.

Saw this on the Fantasy (western Caribbean) as well which seemed handy since there is no luxury shopping in any of those ports. Not a good selection though and prices were higher than actual European stores though so (at least for LV which is all I looked at) on a European itinerary I can't figure it out. I guess you can use your Disney Visa for 10% discount and that's the draw?

It’s a trend. On the Wish the high end shops have gotten a very large space according to the reports here. It’s one of the things people don’t like about the Wish.

Ture. We were disappointed that so much space was used by these high-end shops. Yet the shop with Disney merchandise was much smaller and on a different deck.

Just wanted to point out that if you are buying high end goods on a cruise in europe, be sure to compare prices to US. Remember that you can get a VAT refund on many items.

On the Dream in November all of the designer bags were from What Goes Around Comes Around, a luxury vintage store in NYC. They get their stuff from auctions or people selling to them.

This phenomena isn't unique to the Dream or DCL. I've seen the same on Celebrity and Royal.

Yeah, we didn't like it. They were pretty much deserted most of the time but huge. The space devoted to actual Disney merchandise was quite small and always crowded.

I wonder how long the contract Disney has with these vendors runs. I suspect that you'll see a lot of them changes hands when they expire. The vendors won't want to pay Disney whatever fee if they aren't making significant sales in the shops.

Hopefully Disney will replace them with shops that appeal to the average family.

It's pretty typical. The shops I've seen on non-Disney ships are similar--they always seem empty, but the margins are high enough that only takes one or two sales a day to justify the rent. Honestly, that's the way a lot of the high-end shops in Vegas work too. I've never bought anything myself, but I've been with family members that get super excited about shopping during their free time.

Just back from a Dream cruise and yes, they are selling that stuff in one of the shops. I couldn't tell if it was new or used, but it's expensive and I don't get it. The shops selling those items are all over Europe (and you can get the VAT refund through them).
