Just posted a long, detailed question but don't think it posted. Sorry if this is a repeat -
Anyway, has anyone ever had a tooth luxated by an oral surgeon. Confused tonight b/c orthodontist says to have non erupted tooth luxated. It currently looks "caught' on the tooth next to it in the xray.
Oral surgeon says luxating a tooth can be dangerous to tooth and wants to put chain on tooth so orthodontist can then pull tooth into place over time. Said he would speak w/ orthodontist about this. We went ahead and made appt for surgery this wed.
Orhodontist office called tonight and said cancel surgery b/c there is nothing to attach chain to and if oral surgeon won't luxate the tooth then go to other surgeon. the tooth is the back molor and it needs to be pulled back. There is nothing behind it to attach the chain to. By the way, the oral surgeon is the best in town.
So what do I do now? Who do I believe? I'm going to call dentist tomorrow (mostly b/c I trust him more then other 2 docs) and see what he thinks. I"ll ask him if luxating is dangerous.
One other thing - orthodontist also said to remove widsom tooth which is next to tooth in question. Oral surgeon says this is not needed now and wisdom tooth is not problem. Oral surgeon never looked in son's mouth at visit - just at xray. Is that normal?
So, has anyone heard of or experienced having a tooth luxated? Any bad outcome? Who would you believe in this situation?
