Does anyone know if they still do this? I believe it was at the Brown Derby. I can't find any info on this site, but then I could be looking in the wrong place. Also any idea if I need to make reservations with Dining or some other department?. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Yes this is still offered. NOt sure where you can find the info on it. But if you call the wine dine line they should be able to help you.

Here's the information on the Disney World site. One bit of information that I know is incorrect is that while the Brown Derby is on the dining plan, it is not accepted for "Dine with an Imagineer." They were also doing Dinner with an Imagineer at Flying Fish, but that might not be as often (or maybe no longer?)

Are we sure that it is not included? We have it booked for our upcoming trip and I just read somewhere today that it is not included. I checked our reservation confirmation and it clearly says it is included with the dining plan and shows as a 2 TS credit reservation. Also, the web page you indicated clearly shows it as being on the dining plan as well. This is really a horrible mistake on the part of Disney - we have a reservation for 8 and had I not accidentally found out today that it's not included we would have been in for one heck of a surprise when it came time to pay the bill and I would be one very unhappy camper!! Or if we had figured out it wasn't included when we arrived we would have cancelled - would they charge us the cancellation fee? Again, I would be very unhappy! Where can I call to be absolutely certain of its status relative to the dining plan?? The regular dining line? Can I call the restaurant directly??

I thought I had read it was included as 2TS.. I would call the regular dining line.. You cant get the restaurant..

Lunch with an Imagineer at Brown Derby and the dinner at Flying Fish are NOT included on the dining plan. The restaurants are, but not if you book this special package.

I don't know who you can call. WDW-DINE is wrong more often than not regarding information like this. And the website is not correct. It's referring to the restaurant itself, not the special package. If you click through to "make a reservation" there is NO dining plan information there, except that it says "I want to use my dining plan to book reservations." It says that on other restaurant pages where we know the dining plan is not accepted. This is a major design flaw in the dining website.

Lunch is offered at Brown Derby Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. Don't know if there is a specific schedule for the dinner at Flying Fish. You can call WDW-DINE to book, but don't expect the phone agents to know the specifics. They're probably looking at the same Disney website. When that website is wrong, so are they.

Actually, dining plan information is there when you book it. I just tried to book for 4/13/2011 at 11:30 for 1 person (that's available BTW if anyone wants it) and after you select your time on the next screen "Guest Information" it says "Dine With an Imagineer The Hollywood Brown Derby Disney's Hollywood Studios Show – View Dining Plan Information" at the top and if you click on the view dining plan info it clearly states that it is a 2 TS credit thing. Also, I checked on my confirmation and again at the bottom it lists the dining plan info. I believe that this may be a mistake but it is VERY big mistake in my opinion and absolutely pathetic that a company the size of Disney has this kind of error on their website.

Sorry. That website is leading you astray. This package is NOT on the dining plan - unless it has been changed very recently, and there has been no announcement. They also do not accept Tables in Wonderland for it.

When I do the same thing you did on the Dine with an Imagineer page I do not get ANY dining plan information.

I actually had the same question a few weeks ago when I was looking at the website. When I spoke with the dining rep, she told me that it's only included in the premium and platinum dining plans...hence, the confusion on the site. We'll be on the deluxe dining plan, so we'd be paying out of pocket for this one. Hope that helps :)

It's still a mistake as it shows as being a 2 TS meal on the reg and deluxe plans. There is some confusion with some other restaurants like the Rainforest who come up as being on the dining plan but if you look at the dining plan info it does only show as being included with the Premium and Platinum plans whereas this one shows as being included with all plans.

That is because they are showing you the dining plan information for the Brown Derby itself.

You should send a comment to the Disney website, maybe they will correct it.

I could be mistaken but I do not believe they will even take Premium or Platinum for the Imagineer lunch.

Yes, they could be showing the dining plan info for the Brown Derby itself but it is on the specific Imagineer Lunch page so it's still a mistake.

I called the dining line to verify and 2 out of 3 cast members said it IS included and the 3rd one said she didn't "think" it was but she didn't sound too sure.

I did send a comment to the Disney website so hopefully they will fix it. I'm just glad I found out ahead of time as it would have been a $400 out of pocket expense we weren't counting on. I wonder what they would have done if we decided not to do it when we arrived because of the error on the website as the cancellation policy is 48hrs or you are charged full price!!

Dining line cast members are looking at the same information as the website. They're going to say whatever the website says.

Last report on this event is that this particular event does NOT accept the dining plan. It's certainly possible that they changed that, and didn't announce it. Unfortuately the correct word can only come from someone who has actually gone recently and asked at the restaurant.

I guess that's why we come to the disboards!! It's really too bad we can't rely on the Disney site or the reservation line for the correct info. I'm just going to cancel the reservation and maybe try and get into just the regular Brown Derby instead as we have the deluxe dining plan and I'm certainly not looking to spend $400 out of pocket. I think my kids are too young anyway and I was on the fence about it in the first place but the other family we are going with really wanted to do it. I'll wait a day or two and see if somebody responds to my email but if not there will be a ressie for 8 at the beginning of May opening up!

If you have young children, the Imagineer lunch would not be suitable for them unless you have kids that don't mind sitting and listening to adults talk for up to three hours. Disney doesn't have an age limit but recommends for 14 and up. Teens who are interested in careers as Imagineers are generally fascinated. Little kids would likely just get bored.

do I count as recent? :goodvibes

It was not available as part of the "normal" dining plans (no one in our group was part of the platinum or premium plans so I don't know if they were included or not). :) You could charge it to your room or pay however you wanted, but the tip was already included (they worked the checks separate in the different parties, but did the tip as if you were over a group of 6 or more)...

We met in the lobby of the Brown Derby at 11 for lunch, and were taken on a tour of the building by one of the Brown Derby cast members. While it was very interesting, she was very soft spoken, and it was hard to hear her at times- so it paid to be in front or to the side of her. :rotfl:

After the tour, we were taken to the Bamboo Room and seated- we had twelve total including the Imagineer of the Day and another cast member who sat in (evidently this is common when there are extra spots, and the cast members can see who is speaking that day, and they make sure to go to as many different ones as possible). Our Imagineer was one of the three left in the Animal Kingdom lighting department, and we had a wonderful time discussing attractions and his job, how long he had been in Disney (decades after being a roadie for various 80's hair bands), etc. The youngest in our group was younger teens, and really anyone younger, no matter how advanced, would have been bored. It was a good 4 hours of dining and talking, and if you don't have a polite group it can be monopolized very easily, which IMO is why they have the age limit.

We did receive the customized menu with what we ate and who was with us, along with a group photo, and a plate for each person which you can have the Imagineer sign at the end of the meal or not as choose. Great for my husband and I as we have one signed and one not, perhaps not so great for the family of four as they now have four plates that are definitely not for eating on.... :rotfl2: And ours were clear, not the black that are show on the all ears site .http://land.allears.net/reviewpost/showproduct.php?product=514&cat=37

The menu that's up currently on the Disney site http://disneyworld.disney.go.com/media/wdw_nextgen/CoreCatalog/WaltDisneyWorld/en_us/Media/InternetMediaType/Dining/DineWithAnImagineer/hollywood-brown-derby-dining-with-an-Imagineer.pdf is very similar to what we had in October... we had a mushroom soup with creme fraiche as opposed to oyster soup; the fillet is similar but not the same (peppers featured prominently on ours, which while the server said they could do without was made with some type of pepper juice which set of my allergy later in the day), while the other entrees are the same; the desserts are the same.

I used it to surprise my husband for our wedding anniversary, and he was thrilled. It did take a good chunk out of our day, and it was a very unique experience, so if you want to sit and talk for a good 3-4 hours with an Imagineer, I highly recommend it.

There were only three drawbacks that I could see with it:
1. a bad group could ruin the experience for someone- Imagineers are not always the best crowd control people, so they might not control the conversation well (didn't happen with our group)
2. it is a set menu so if you don't like what's on there or are allergic to something, it may not be able to be changed, no matter what Disney says (even though we told them when we made the reservation, told the check-in CM, and the server, I still got an entree with peppers which could have easily been fixed with the sauce left off... I was told that it was made without it, even asked the server when it was set down in front of me as it looked the same as the others around me, and he assured me it was, but it wasn't)
3. the freakin' parade- it was HSM or something and passed by every 45 minutes or something and was SO loud we would have to stop talking as it passed. It got really annoying but we worked around it

:hippie:

I actually have a printed confirmation that states that it is 2 ts credits. I called and they checked and it is not on dining plan.

I would not want to be the one trying to explain this to all the customers who booked it on DP and have written confirmation that it is and can not use it.

Another Disney IT mess that WDW is not standing behind.

I'm in the same situation! I have my reservation confirmation that clearly shows it costing 2 TS credits and the web page says the same thing. If my friend hadn't told me it wasn't included I would have gone fully expecting it to cost 2 TS credits.

I sent off an email to Disney through the website stating the problem, and also that if it IS on the dining plan, they need to update the dining brochures and their cast member training, and if it isn't, they need to fix the website. I checked all the dining plans (Disney Dining, Premium, and Platinum), and it's not stated on any of them as either a dining experience or a tour.

Let's see what they say.

The problem is that these are confirmations printed from the online system. As far as that system is concerned you've just booked a meal at Brown Derby. That is why the confirmation prints out with the dining plan on it. Apparently even though they created a new page for the Imagineer lunch, they left the regular Brown Derby information attached to it.

I agree they will need to either fix the online system or have a lot of irate dining plan users when they show up at Brown Derby for the lunch and find out they can't pay with dining credits.

The black plate on Allears is from the dinner at Flying Fish, not the Brown Derby lunch, and from what the reviews say guests apparently have to pay extra to purchase it at the dinner. Brown Derby guests get a clear plate, and it does not cost extra.
