We normally drive from upstate NY to FLA however are flying in this time. We are taking Airtran and wondering if anyone has had problems with luggage size. We have sets of regular soft sided luggage and wondering if that is considered oversize.

All help and comments appreciated.

I've only traveled Air Tran once, but I have softsided luggage and it was fine.

"For each fare-paying customer, AirTran Airways allows two (2) checked pieces free of charge, with size limitations. The maximum weight is 50 pounds and maximum size is 62 inches (length + width + height)."
Just returned from WDW yesterday and flew Airtran. I would suggest you measure your luggage before you leave for your trip. We knew about the weight limit and were good to go in that area. But we were unaware of the 62 inch size limit. We departed from Moline, Illinois and when we arrived at check-in the gal got her measuring tape out and measured every piece of our luggage. We had 1 piece a bit larger, with an expansion zipper. She was so kind and allowed us to remove a few items so we could zip up the expansion, making the luggage piece meet requirements. She mentioned to us to keep that in mind when we return home via Orlando airport. She said they would not give us an option to remove items at that location and would charge us a $65 fee, if we were over the requirements. We ended up buying a tote bag to use as a carry on for items we purchased at WDW .
