Luggage Tags - what do you put on them?

I'm typing up some tags and I was wondering what information most people list on theirs. I was thinking my name, DH's name, our address and our cell #'s.

What do you think? Should I put the resort?

I too am in the grips of designing Mickey head luggage tags for us and a rather weird thought occurred to me...if I put our destination (as per my sister's request), what happens when we're on our way home and it's no longer our destination? Do I make separate luggage tags for the trip home? I don't know how my ink cartridges in my printer would handle the pressure!! In the end, I think I've decided to leave the destination off. But I would also like to hear others opinions...one or two sets of tags?

I would not put an address on the tags. I would put a contact number while you are away on the tags. It is also a good idea to put a copy of your itinerary in your suitcase in case the airlines have to get in touch with you.

Also be sure to put something on your suitcase to identify it. When the luggage is coming around the carousel much of it looks alike.

I decided to include our cell #'s so that if they get lost at any time we can be reached. Yes, I'm paranoid. :rolleyes1

I'm also going to put them on my backpack and our camera bag in case we misplace them in the parks.

I think one set would mean less headaches for you!

We always put a piece of paper inside of our luggage. We list our name, address, phone #, cell #, and resort name. We attach bright, thick, matching ribbon to the outside of our luggage so that we can find it easily. Another idea that I read was to get the mickey shaped paint chips at the hardware store to attach to the outside of our luggage.

I've always heard to NOT put your address because anyone walking by or handling your luggage can see the address & will know that there's an empty house waiting to be robbed.

We just put our names & cell phone numbers

Inside I have our name, address and phone number. On the tags I have just my last name, home phone number and phone number of the resort we are using. Change the slip out every trip.

Thanks...but now I'm majorly in a jam...I never knew putting your address would be a problem! But as a co-worker of mine just pointed out, if you put your name or phone number on it, it would take a potential thief with internet access about 2 seconds to get your address from any online phone book (unless you had an unlisted number and then it would take them only a few more minutes to get it). So now I'm down to nothing but a tag with pictures...how does the airline notify you if your baggage is lost without your information? Who knew luggage tags would be such a daunting chore?

My husband and I both use our business addresses and phone numbers. I put my business card inside the suitcase and in the luggage tag.

That's a very very good idea!! Quandry solved!

If you use your cell phone the airline can contact you. If you have a business address you could use that. If you lose your luggage you need to give them a contact number and address to deliver the luggage to.

Most cell numbers are not listed on the internet so that's not much of a security risk. You can always change the number if it gets into the wrong hands. Giving them your business number doesn't do you much good if your luggage gets lost and they call your office but you are at WDW with your cell phone. :)

That is why you should have a copy of your itinerary so if the luggage is lost they could try and contact you at your hotel. If it states you are staying at CBR for example they could get a hold of you that way.

(copied from another post)

Let's start a fad!

Make up 3x5 cards all with the same 3 digit number of your choice in big digits. (And your name in smaller print. Fluorescent green or orange if you wish.) Plaster two on each of your suitcases, on the sides .

You can also add the travel date and the name/code of the final destination airport you are flying to, but then you need to change the tags for your continuing or homebound trip.

On second thought...I think I've changed my ever changing mind again :teeth: ! I just checked the TSA website on packing tips and it said the following:

Don't forget to place identification tags with your name, address and phone number on all of your baggage, including your laptop computer. It is a good idea to place an identification tag inside your baggage as well.
