Luggage Tag question

Our luggage has the little pocket on the backside with a card inside for name, address, phone number... It's not an obvious luggage tag, but that is what it's there for.

My question is, do the airports recognize this? I would hate for a piece to get misplaced and then a worker not know where to look.

Can I rely on this or should I buy luggage tage?

I like having my own luggage tags, partly b/c it makes it easier to spot MY black bag in a sea of black bags. I think it's likely they would see the card holder (on the luggage I have, it's fairly easy to spot, right on the back of the luggage) if you opt for that.

As I said, I like my luggage to be easy to pick out, so I have luggage tags with the boys' school logo on them and bright green locks and hand grips.

That is a really good point. Our luggage is a very bright blue, but that might be pretty common. Maybe I'll find something that is a neon pink.

Another thought on luggage tags.....years ago someone told me ONLY to put our last name and cell number on the tag. Never put your address on the tag. I guess there was a group of people that worked at the airport who looked for luggage of people who lived in their friends neighborhood. They knew the people were out of town and would rob their houses.

I think for NW, their site says luggage tags have to have your full name, address, and telephone number. I understand that this is so they can return the luggage if nobody claims it, but it doesn't seem safe at all!
