Luggage made it to Orlando but we didnt!

What a frustrating and disappointing day you had! I am so sorry you missed your vacation =( Hope June flies by!!!

What airport was this with the long lines?!?!?!?!!? Sorry you've had bad luck. Here's pixie dust that your week in June has the best weather and low crowds!

Big hugs and pixie dust to you!!!! But sooooo glad you were able to reschedule! When you have had some time and are feeling better about it, please share the details of what happened....maybe it can help one of us so it doesn't happen again!

Nope you are not the only one thinking that. As a matter of fact I was thinking that would be condsidered a major breach of security and the airline could possible face a penalty for it....if it was made known. Then again, I could be wrong. :confused3

That does make sense. Your luggages just going around and around the conveyer belt unattended. Someone can easily put something in your bag, since now you can't have locks on them. I think that should be a breach of security.

So, are your bags back yet? That's aweful that you had to miss your flight. I guess they must have really tighten up their security as far as checking the guests. Well... now you have more time to plan more. And now you also have time to save more money too! June is just around the corner. Just wait and see. Mickey will be there waiting for you with a big open arms. ::MickeyMo

It is not a breech of security. Bags go on different planes all the time. I checked in for a flight last week about 2 hours ahead. When I got to the final airport my luggage was already waiting. It had gone on an earlier flight.

This happened to us in January. Same thing, security took SO long. We had checked in a good hour before our flight as well. We ran.......imagine the scene from Home Alone......all the way to the terminal and they had literally just shut the gate. We had to wait a few hours and take a connecting flight with a three hour lay over in some tiny little airport in SC. Exhausting day to say the least, I feel your pain! Glad you were able to reschedule though!
An hour???? Unless you are leaving from a small airport, you need to allow yourself more time than that.

As for the OP, I can't believe other accomodations could not be made to get you to MCO. That's just bizarre.

And the baggage is not a security breach because 100% of all checked luggage is now screened.

Oh no! I'm so sorry! I'm glad you were able to reschedule.

As far as the bags - if passengers have checked in successfully, and the bags go through their own separate security, I don't see the problem with them getting on the plane. It's a huge pain though.

Fortunately for us we are leaving from a small airport that is 5 minutes from our house. It is litterally a two gate airport with the gates being no more that 100 feet from the entrance to the airport that is only about 50 feet from where we park the car.

But.... my concern is we change planes in Phil. We are flying US Airways and I have heard people say that depending upon what terminal you are flying in or out of you may have to go through security again when changing planes. We have about a 80 minute layover and should have plenty of time but I am a bit concerned about it. If we were to get in late and had to go through security again it could make it close.

As for the security risk I don't know about domestic flights but I do think they have to pull your luggage on international flights if you are not on the plane.

But the good part about going through a large airport is that if for some reason you do miss your connection, you should be able to make another flight on your original airline or another. If there is no flight available from your original airline then INSIST on accomodations on another carrier. After all at this point it would not be your fault you missed your connection. Polite but pushy is the best way to deal with airlines.

I am not sure about international regulation, but domestic regulation is that the baggage can go on the flight without you since it has been screened for explosives.

And I love SMALL airports! Way worth paying a few extra dollars. :Pinkbounc

As long as you are not an international flight you shouldn't have to go through security again at PHL. I just flew through there and had to go from B and C and take a bus to F. At no time did I have to go through security. There is a shopping mall in the middle so there is plenty of food and other types of stores and bathrooms.

Sorry this happened to you. Sending pixie dust your way for your rescheduled trip. :wizard:

Because of stories like this, we always leave home at least 2 - 2 1/2 hours prior to our flights just to be safe on time. We live about 10 minutes from the Indy airport, but it gives us plenty of time to drive over, park and get through security without being stressed.

Anyway - hope you have a great trip in June!

It is no longer a major breach of security. ALL luggage is now screened. Prior to that it was a security breach which is why the airlines pushed to get screening in place at all airports. (There was a period where the screenings were more "random") So the big risk is not to your safety, but to the safety of your luggage!

Now, I am not sure what happened here, but in most cases DL would assume that the passenger would just fly standby on the next flight and meet thier luggage in Orlando. I don't know why that option wasn't used. It sounds like the $500 was for confirmed seats as opposed to standby seats?

The 500.00 per seat was for flying out the next day. There werent any available seats to fly out that day. We basicly had to buy new tickets.
It all worked out and we are headed back on June 29th !!!

Thanks for the information. I feel much better knowing that. ( Can you tell I am still a little nervous about flying. )

Major bummer. I always stress about checking in at the airport and arrive way earlier than I need to. It just makes me start my vacation with a little less anxiety. I'd rather figure in the extra time than have the unknown cause a time problem. I like to people watch at the airport anyway! Glad you are re-scheduled!!!!
