luggage locks??

And there you have it. Only on the DIS could you get a complete course in cable ties just by asking. What a great course!!!

Barb - let's plan something in the spring when we don't have to think about the white stuff coming down! I understand you are already getting hit this morning! Ohh, yippee - more fun in the snow. When I was younger, I loved it - guess middle age has hit!

Here's my concern - we have a hardsider bag and if we don't lock the latches I'm afraid they are going to open with all the abuse the bags get in loading. Can't use cable ties with these type of locks. I'm hoping instead of breaking them open they'll call us to open it. I didn't pack anything that should raise concern and I packed loosely as I read that using the space bags may make things too dense for the x-ray to see properly.

Guess I'll find out Saturday morning

You can find cable ties at Walmart, Target........look in the hardware section, maybe around where electrical is. I found some hanging on the endcap of a display beside lightswitch plates. They are really inexpensive and have hundreds of uses!

I just gave up the Samsonite hardsides due to weight concerns. They took so much abuse from use over many, many years - hoping to get at least half that much from the softsided.

Thanks for all the suggestions on the cable ties. I still want to come up to visit though, Barb. Maybe we can get a group of us from IL and IN together and have lunch in Hobart/Merrilville.

I don't have hardside luggage any longer, but I can picture your locks-- right at the top near the handle and you need a key to lock them right??

can you use luggage straps?? ... the kind that goes ALL around your luggage and then just clips shut .... That would help keep the luggage closed in case they "spring" open. But I think it was Rae who had them on and they never arrived with/on the luggage.....

If you can't find them at Wal-Mart or Target, I'd try like a Home Depot or Lowe's, they should have something you can rig up.
OR you could use duct tape!!! LOL :) 101 uses for duct tape, we can make it 102 uses!!

Good Luck, Jeanny :-)

Yes, it was my luggage straps (bright yellow with our last name embroidered in black on it) that were "missing". We even had electrical tape at the snap lock (just in case). I don't want to tell you what my DH said happened to them - but you can figure that one out!

If you want to purchase them and take your own chances, we got ours through Walter Drake Co. They aren't cheap and are well made. They even have ones with locking combinations now but a box cutter makes short work of that.

Rae

P.S.
Long live duct tape!
